  • What do you do about your facial hair ??

Just a curious question to yall. If you have the ungodly facial hair ~ what is your method to hide, cover or conceal it ?
Mine gets REALLY bad and like a dummy.. I started shaving it when I was younger. So now It is an everday thing or else.....I get really bad side burns. Anyone else ? And I have to constantly pluck the beard hairs out/under my chin weekly.

It's really a pain in the ***. But I have to do it

    Highest Regards !

Electrology! I have been going to an electrology school for over a year, on and off. I have been for the past 3 Saturdays in a row.

I used to pluck, but it started getting so bad that I couldn't pluck it all. So I started shaving. (when I was younger I used Nair on my upper lip but it always burned me)

It is soooo hard to let it grow out. But I (and most doctors) will suggest electrology. It is the only FDA approved way to get rid of hair permanently. Laser treatments are not guarrented to be permanent.

I’ve found that it can be painful, but it can also be fine. I can very easily tolerate the pain on my chin and neck and the out part of my upper lip. The inside of the upper lip can be very painful, but they have different procedures for these sensitive areas.

I’ve had my chin, neck and eyebrows worked on extensively (esp my chin/neck). Just recently (now that my chin/neck are more under control) I’m having my cheeks (side burns worked on) I’ve shaved these, trimmed them and even tried lightening them (which looked weird cause I am a brunette). I have had my underarms worked on twice but I was really sensitive so I’ve haven’t had those worked on again (although I will once there is less work to do on my face). I have also had my chest worked on.

They can basically work anywhere on your body that you want to rid of hair. I haven’t had my bikini line worked on yet, but they are women in there all the time getting that area worked on.

SOOO my advice would be to go get electrology. Yes, it can be expensive. Yes, it can be embarrassing to let the hair grow (I usually use a lot of makeup to cover up as much as I can when I’m growing it out), yes, it can be painful…. BUT you can get rid of the hair. It sometimes takes a long time, depending on the amt you have, but it is sooooo worth it.

That’s a little more than my 2 cents, but electrology is really the only way to get rid of it forever.

How long do you have to let it grow???? I shave every day, and since I've been doing it since VERY young, its pretty scratchy when it starts coming back in. The worst is when I'm out somewhere, and I realize I forgot to do it... :yikes

I HATE THAT !!!! :yes :yikes :yikes :yikes

I will be out somewhere or at my Familys house and gently rub across the stubble... YIKES. Then I get paranoid wondering if they can see it because I know it's there. I have learned to stay out of the sunlight (since you can see the shadow and newly growing stubs) and when people hug me I turn that part of my head away so they wont rub the scratchy newly shaved side burns. I hate it and it's daily struggle. I hate shaving my side burns everyday!! I would have such a hard time letting it grow out! But I would do it for a solution. When you say painful..how painful are we talking about ?

And what kind of $$ are we talking about ? I have never really thought about electrology. Thanks !

Well to answer the first question, the hair only need to be out of the skin enough that you could grab it with tweezers. And with the way my hair grows (and probably many of you) it only takes a few days to get there. Second, once you start electrology, you really need to try and go through the whole process and be committed. I’ve been going for over a year mostly because it was hard to find time to let it grow and they not to wear makeup the next day. So I usually get my face worked on on Sat. then let it recover and no make-up on Sun. So by Mon. I can wear make-up (I’m struggling with acne too and acne scars from PCOS so I don’t feel comfortable going out without make-up)
Now cost, it all depends! I recommended the school I’ve been going to in Long Beach. They cost $20/hour for the students advanced enough to work on your face. I can’t afford to go to a regular electrologist because in this area (Orange Count, Southern California) it’s like $50-80/hour. This wasn’t realistic for me. See if there are any schools in your area by doing some internet searching. Sometimes it is hit or miss to get a good one. I’ve had mostly good students and a few bad ones. The instructor will also work on you but she’s $50/hour. I tried her twice but it was too expensive for the amount of work I’ve needed.
When I first started growing it out, I WAS HORRIFIED about the amount of hair I had on my chin. I was embarrassed and tried to hide my chin in those days. To be honest, you can’t avoid the growing out stage, I usually will put a little more make-up in that area and it will mask the hairs a little more. But I’m going to tell you that when they are able to clear your face, you feel so excited and feminine again. The pain is worth it to get that icky hair off me!
More: Hair grows in cycles, so only a portion of actual hairs are showing right now. You have to be consistent with it so that you can get the hairs at all stages.
All the students and instructors that have worked on me have been kind, and eased my embarrassment. This is their job and they see hairy people everyday. Your hairy chin is there job, so try not to feel too embarrassed, that’s why they are there. Its funny/weird sometimes when I’m there and they get a hair and will say things like, ohh you got a big one, which means they really killed that hair and got the whole root. They love getting in there and zapping those stupid hairs away.
Electrology is a must for women with PCOS/facial hair. The time and money is well worth it when you’re not having to shave your face or pluck or whatever.
NOTE: If you do plan to go in and check it out, you must stop plucking. Shaving or trimming are the only ways to keep the hair away during electrology cycles. Plucking alters the root of your hair and makes it harder to get rid of.
