  • Anyone have Laser?

Hi! I am 20 and have been suffering with PCOS for almost six years. I was not diagnosed with it until my nineteenth birthday, but before that I had all the symptoms, including excess facial hair. This problem has been both embarrassing and hurtful to me since I was thirteen years old. For a while I was on birth control and it helped make the hair lighter, but after I went off the birth control all the hair came back. Now, it is darker and coarser than ever and growing under my chin, on my face, above my lip and on my sideburn area. I am a light skinned person and have heard that laser will be effective due to my skin and hair color, but I was wondering if anyone here had actually had success with having laser done. I am a college student and cannot afford to spend a lot of money on something that will only do a little good. I am planning on going back on birth control in the hope that it will slow down or even stop the hair growth, but I want to be assured that I wont have to deal with this problem anymore. Anyone have any advice?

I have been wondering the same thing. I would love to try it, but don't really have the money to waste if it doesn't work. I take progesterone and it doesn't really help at all with the hair, every morning, I spend countless minutes in the bathroom tweezing, and it always seems to be back by that night. If only there was a cure for the hair growth, I would be so happy. Good luck, and let me know if you try the laser and if it works for you.

I think y'all will get more replies about what you can do and if folk have done this id you join the women's forum. You need to apply. on your User CP page on the left side is a box like this. Click the group memeberships and you should be able to apply for memebership in the women's section. you are required to add female to your signature to get in but there you will find lots more females to discuss facial hair with. Hope you both find the answers you need.

No, I didn't have laser (because it is not FDA approved for permanent hair removal) However, I have had extensive electrology. I have had some issues with darker pigmentaion and have had to use a skin bleach to lighten those areas. The areas that I have had treated I have noticed a HUGE difference.

My main advice is to find a really good electrologist that listens to your needs and has experience.

          HI
I have had laser on my face, chin, upperlip, neck and cheek
there is a great place in Northampton Uk called the laser clinic. It costs £32.00 and u have to go every 4 wks to kill the hair follicles as they are i their growing cycle. I had 7 treatments and only had a couple of hairs left that had no colour that wouldnt go, since I havent been in 6 months a few more have appeared so ill be popping back aftr xmas.
You have to have fairly dark hair to get the best results as it zapps the pigmentin the hair follicle beneath the skin to kill it.
the best thing i have ever paid for

I'd like to try this too. But what I am worried about is that you might have to leave the hairs to grow before you have laser. Do you have to walk around with hairs sprouting for a bit before it will work??

Felix - no. With electrology you do have to let the hairs grow out a little. However, with Laser you need to keep the area shaved (at least before treatment) but try not to pluck or wax in those areas. You should make an appointment with a laser center and with an electrology center and see what would work best for you.
