  • No where else to vent

    Hello all,
I am a 22 year old female. I have been coming to this website for a looongggg time, I have been on and off of atkins for years and years. I don't post much, Because honestly I never stay on long enough to feel pround enough to post. I love this website so much, everytime I start or even when i am off i come here and read peoples stories and get so emotional like wow they did it , why cant i ? Well, this time around I am really hoping to do it, not for looks... but for my health ... My doctor has actually put me on the atkins diet. In Novemeber I had a internal sonogram...and they said I had a very large tumor in my right ovary..so they went in through c-section thinking i had cushing disease... turns out sonogram was WRONG.... had no tumor , BUT VERY VERY large cyst wrapped around spine laying on kidneys, and they had to take some of my right ovary and I also have cycts covering left ovary ... and diagnosed me with PCOS. ..... WOW, it has EXPLAINED SOOOO much, like where all this weight kept coming from and why it was so hard to get off... where all this extra hair was coming from , which i have spent thousands on getting it lasered off. Also my testerone level was 4 times the normal level ! SOOO now they have put me on Metaformin, Spinaltocone, and I am on so many other meds for other health prob its crazy. I also just found out I have diabetes...I am so happy to have this website where there is actually a forum for people with this disease! I am new to this whole thing, any pointers out there from anyone, my doctor said it would be very hard for me to lose weight, but since on all tis new meds, I have honeslty lost 8 pounds in 5 days already !! I want to loose 100 pounds and I want to do it by august1..my 23rd b-day...I would be happy to lose even 80 honestly, but now that i know i have this ..I dont know what to expect. The only thing that really sux is I know to treat pcos they put you on birth control, but they cant put me on it because of my blood pressure! ehhh.. I hate health problems! Help! Also , if you have pcos , does that necessarily mea n your going to have to have a lot of cyst removed ?

welcome. congrats on your great Atkins start.

Everybody has slightly different PCOS so nobody can actuall tell you if your cycts will continue or not.

I can tell you Atkins will lower your testostrogen level for females (Okay guys you can quit screaming)

the molecule that is the precursor for estrogen is androgen ( testostrogen is the best known type of androgen). Insulin interfers with the female body being able to convert the angrogen to estrogen so your estrogen is low and your testostrogen is high. With the atkins low carb plan you will be stabilizing your blood sugars and burning fats fro fuel. this will not evoke insulin production and as such the interference will go down. your metaforin will also make your cells more sensitive to the small amount of insulin present and that will help lower the amount made too. So you have a two pronged attack going already.

Have you fully recovered from your surgery? Exercise is a very important part of Atkins and once your doc releases you to do it you will need to get yourself moving with some type of exercise. We have many challenges going on you can join for motivation to keep going.

Check out the Centruy forum for those needing to loss 100+ pounds when they start.

Nobody can tell you how long it will take but we do know you will be a much healthier smaller person on your birthday if you work your Atkins from now till thewm.
