Sounds like maybe you could use a doctor that you get on with better. My Doc. will not leave the room until he is sure I understand everything he has said and I have no more questions.

My dr is testing me for PCOS now. He mentioned straightening out my hormones with BC pills and giving me glucophage (spelling?).

I had bloodwork done Thursday and Feb 2 I will have a sonogram done for my ovaries.

The main things I read about this is to correct your hormones, eat low-carb, and exercise.

It also sounds like several people have corrected their symptoms through just diet and exercise.

Best wishes to you on your weightloss journey!!

first ther diabetic issue based on your blood sugar levels you have been labled prediabetic because folk with thoiose readings later become diabetics unless they do something to change. Studies have been done and losing as little as 5% of your current body weight can change your blood sugar responses in your body and your sugar level goes down they don't knwo why they just know it does. SO she told you to lose weight and said they would watch to see if you do impprove or not.

PCOS can be effected by insulin levels in the body as insulin interfers with the production of estrogen from the percursor molecules of androgen. When you eat low carb your body makes less insulin because their are less foods needing it to metabolize. the Atkins plan keeps the sugar level low and stable so your body can heal any insulin bad effects it was having.

there are other issues with PCOS but the once caused by not enough estrogen and too much testostrogen can be helped with a low carb diet.

I was diagnosed about five years ago with PCOS and pre-diabetes. That's when I was at my heaviest weight, as you see in my sig. I was prescribed glucophage but stubbornly refused to take it until it occurred to me that I might not be able to conceive without it, since my cycles were so screwed up. So in January of '02, I started taking the meds, eating better, and walking during lunch to get some exercise. About six weeks later, I was ten pounds lighter, but that didn't last for long because I was also pregnant. I immediately got off the meds and never took them again.

My daughter was born in November of '02, and about six months later I made a concerted effort to drop the weight. I started training hard and took a "moderate-carb" approach, and by the spring of '04 I was at my target of 130 lbs and a size 6. My cycles became regular again, and my theory is that it was partly due to the weight loss and partly to the hormonal "reset" from pregnancy.

I say all that to say this - this is a totally treatable problem. If you're on Atkins, I think you're in the right place w/r/t eating - combine that with exercise and (possibly) meds if you feel comfortable with that, and you can beat this. Good luck.

PS - The twelve-ish pounds I've gained back had nothing to do with a recurrence of PCOS, but are due rather to the fact that I made the mistake of not addressing my food addictions at their roots - which is why I'm here.
