Hello all.
I'm so happy to see that they've added this forum in my time away. I just got started up on Atkins again after a LONG absence. In early '03 I went on Atkins and lost about 40 pounds. My periods came back after a nearly 5 year absence. I stayed on this WOE for about 5 months but got derailed.
Flash forward...
It's now Feb. of 06 and I'm back to where I started. Even though the weight gain is an issue (A BIG ISSUE), I have gradually gone from missing a month here and there to its recent absence of 4 months.
Since October 28th I think I've been to the doctor more times than I have been in 10 years put together. It all started out with being sent home by our vice principal because I was ill and she thought I had strep throat ("Really...my throught is just sore. I'll be OK.") Luckily she was insistent that I go home and call the doctor. I was actually able to get in that day...of course, it was strep.
While I was there I bit the bullet and talked to the nurse practitioner that was seeing me. I was due for my well woman and knew it was time after years of "suspecting" I had PCOS, to actually do something about it.
Due to the fact that I was getting married on Nov. 19th, I decided to wait until Dec. to get in for the well woman. Didn't get the well woman but I did however have to scramble around to get meds on my honeymoon...the strep was back....grrr
I didn't actually get in for my well woman until Dec. 29. The pap was normal but the bloodwork showed my glucose was raised. We spoke again about PCOS and she decided to refer me to an endocrinologist. AND to quote the good doctor..."Your throat looks a little suspicious too....let's do a strep test." Yep, my ol' friend was back....3 times in 3 months.
I've made my appointment for the endo. The earliest they could work me in was Mar. 13th. I had originally planned to wait to start Atkins until after the appointment but that was before they called me back and gave me the date. There was no way I was going to wait until Spring Break! SO...
I actually started Induction a week ago and I'm already down 10 pounds. YIPPEE! I am so excited to finally be getting an "official" diagnosis. I had pretty much decided that I'd never have children due to PCOS but I'm much more optimistic these days about the possibilities. The new hubby and I have already decided to foster and adopt regardless but it would be nice to have the opportunity to do both.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
Joyce
