  • Finally getting the ball rolling...

    Hello all.

I'm so happy to see that they've added this forum in my time away. I just got started up on Atkins again after a LONG absence. In early '03 I went on Atkins and lost about 40 pounds. My periods came back after a nearly 5 year absence. I stayed on this WOE for about 5 months but got derailed.

    Flash forward...

It's now Feb. of 06 and I'm back to where I started. Even though the weight gain is an issue (A BIG ISSUE), I have gradually gone from missing a month here and there to its recent absence of 4 months.

Since October 28th I think I've been to the doctor more times than I have been in 10 years put together. It all started out with being sent home by our vice principal because I was ill and she thought I had strep throat ("Really...my throught is just sore. I'll be OK.") Luckily she was insistent that I go home and call the doctor. I was actually able to get in that day...of course, it was strep. While I was there I bit the bullet and talked to the nurse practitioner that was seeing me. I was due for my well woman and knew it was time after years of "suspecting" I had PCOS, to actually do something about it.

Due to the fact that I was getting married on Nov. 19th, I decided to wait until Dec. to get in for the well woman. Didn't get the well woman but I did however have to scramble around to get meds on my honeymoon...the strep was back....grrr

I didn't actually get in for my well woman until Dec. 29. The pap was normal but the bloodwork showed my glucose was raised. We spoke again about PCOS and she decided to refer me to an endocrinologist. AND to quote the good doctor..."Your throat looks a little suspicious too....let's do a strep test." Yep, my ol' friend was back....3 times in 3 months.

I've made my appointment for the endo. The earliest they could work me in was Mar. 13th. I had originally planned to wait to start Atkins until after the appointment but that was before they called me back and gave me the date. There was no way I was going to wait until Spring Break! SO...

I actually started Induction a week ago and I'm already down 10 pounds. YIPPEE! I am so excited to finally be getting an "official" diagnosis. I had pretty much decided that I'd never have children due to PCOS but I'm much more optimistic these days about the possibilities. The new hubby and I have already decided to foster and adopt regardless but it would be nice to have the opportunity to do both.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

welcome back to Atkins. Congrats on the new DH. Atkins will help many ofyour PCOS symptoms if you are insulin resistant and if your estrogen is low as you saw last time you werehere.

Join the exercise challenges and get some motivation for when you don't ant to do that part too.

    Happy lowcarbiing.

      Hi! Welcome Aboard!!

I've just been recently diagnosed with PCOS too. So, it seems there are several of us in this together.

The dr put me on Provera for 10 days to start my TOM then I start the Yasmin BCPs after that time. I'm hoping that this will straighten the hormone issue out and I get more energy. It also helps explain the easy weight gain so that makes me feel a little better.

Anyway, please keep us posted and update us when you have your March appointment.

You sound like you're doing great on Induction!! Keep up the good work!!

Who knows...you may get the "Egyptian Flu" after all -- in nine months you'll be a mummy!
