  • What meds are you on?!

I've been diagnosed with PCOS for quite some time now.. and this had made me gain 80 pounds in total about 3 months (that really got me on the strechmarks depeartment). And don't start about the depresseion *sigh*

My doctor has put me on Glucophage (Metformin), Diane 35, and Aldactone 100mg.

I've been yoyo dieting for the past 5 years ... and I've noticed it only works when I'm off the meds! except that my hair starts falling again and the facial hair starts to get darker. When I'm on the meds (especially Diane 35), my hair is fine and facial hair is almost gone, but I gain weight so fast.. this way whatever I do, it has to be done without the meds otherwise my hard work is just like trying to maintain the current weight I'm at!!

Has anyone come across this situation?!

I've decided to continue this cycle of Diane 35, and then stop it and concentrate on my weight loss.. I've tried getting onto atkins while still on these pills but the depression they cause is so severe that I stop everything and can't go on mentally.

Can I get any advice?! I'm just sick of all of this but I don't want to give up on losing weight because I really want to.

Re: What meds are you on?!

welcome to the forum. i don't have it but promised the ADBB admin I'd monitor the health forums and asnwer all I could

the Glucophage (Metformin) should help you with your Atkins weight loss as it wil help reduce your production of insulin as your cells become more senstive to the inulin. this helps you stay in the fat burning mode all the time.

PCOS has many many different symptoms and some folk need different meds for different symptoms. low carbing will help increase estrogen production becasue the interferrance of the conversion of the androgen precusor molecule for the estrogen production will be greatly reduced.

talk with your doc about what your long term goals are and see if you can stop some of those meds for say 6 months and then re evalulate.

Thanks 2big4mysize.. I know I should but my doctor has the idea that I should be able to do it even if I'm BC pills.. and truth is, so far I couldn't.. I will have to talk to him I guess.

you are welcome I love to leak sharing info with new folk.

if you have depression and are on any of the serationin uptake inhibitor meds for that please get your levels checked cause they use the same liver enzymes as Atkins low carbing does and it can effect your body's response to the dose.
