  • Would it be possible....

    that I have PCOS????

I actually was just reading the Gulf News Friday magazine and came across this letter written to the Health editor from this 25 year old woman...

I noticed that I had some severe mood balances/swings occur to me over the past 6 - 7 months right around the time after my period came....... I some how managed to get through it, always attributed it to stress being high, and started taking the B-Complex vitamin which seemed to control it better....

I've been off low carb eating for the past 2 months almost now and my hormones seem to be much better......

not sure if the Atkins diet can cause hormones to go out of whack at first or???????

I'm just confused now. I am going to start up again on induction and monitor myself once again.....also increase my exercise.

I have most of my weight in my belly/abdomen which I noticed is also the symptom of PCOS and also my period cycle seems to be around 31 or 32 days in length.

Not sure if any of this makes sense in relation to PCOS???

    thanks!!!

      Hi Diva,

It's really hard for anyone to say whether you have PCOS or not without going to the doctor. I was diagnosed almost 8 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant, and hadn't had a menstral cycle in over 3 years at the time. No two women are the same when it comes to symptoms of PCOS though. I can relate to your problem with excess belly fat and facial hair. *sigh*

Start with a blood work-up and go from there.

      Good luck, Diva! Hugs!

          hi diva-

it certainly sounds like you have some of the symptoms, but know that PCOS is a collective of many things that not all women have. i was offically diagnosed with it in 2005, and the best way for the doc is to see your ovaries via vaginal ultrasound.

the atkins diet (or any low-carb diet) helps mitigate/reverse the symptoms of PCOS, which is why i'm here. even if you are confirmed with PCOS, know that it is not the end of the world. there are meds that help, and of course, diet and exercise are your best bet. good luck and let us know how you make out!

Hi Divain! Actually, I was told by several doctors that you can have none of the symptoms and have PCOS, and then have all the symptoms, including the cysts and not have PCO, so its really important to go to your Gyno and have blood drawn and tests done if you are concerned. Otherwise, yes, at first doing Atkins, your hormones can be effected, but in most of the cases I've seen, the hormone imbalance was already there, and Atkins regulates and fixes/improves it with continued diet. If indeed your symptoms are due to hyperinsulimia, or hypoglecimia, which can cause all the same symptoms as PCOS, then Atkins will remedy you in time. It has helped TREMENDOUSLY with my PCOS. Hope this helps.
