  • "PCOS" Roll call.. Jan 2007

I was just wondering how many women here have pcos?

Hi! My name is Maryam. I was diagnosed with pcos about 5 years ago! (but have had the symptoms all my life)I have had a problem with heavy bleeding and prolonged periods.
My doc just told me to "lose weight" YEAH as if it is that easy. I know low carb has helped PCOS but some cant stick to it well, but I am hoping too. Right now I am infertile because of all the problems I am having! I am hoping Atkins will help!
If you need a shoulder to cry on from a woman who knows! Just send me a letter! I am more than happy to listen!

    hi noor-

i'm in the same boat as you. currently having a real hard time TTC. however, this diet is perfect for PCOS. it's helping tremendously vis-a-vis regular menses and ovulation. i just had my first IUI on 1/10, and although it didn't work, i am holding onto hope that after a few months of regular cycles, i will be able to get pg. i am on clomid and metformin, as well.

i would love to chat anytime!

      Hi Noor,

I don't recall exactly when I was diagnosed...I believe in 1998 or 1999, but like you, I believe I've had it all my life, or at least, since puberty. I've been on a lot of different medications over the years to try to conceive or at least get me "normal" again. This WOE is the only thing that has helped me consistantly.

I've given up my dream of ever trying to conceive, mainly because I think I'm getting "too old," but I definately want to get rid of my symptoms to the best of my ability. I think I've suffered long enough!

For those that are trying to conceive, my prayers are with you to get your wish!

I know I've said this before, so sorry for those who've had to hear it, but there is hope! I'm living proof! After 8 1/2 years of complete infertility, I'm now almost 16 weeks pregnant! Stick to the plan, and if necessary, see if you can get a prescription for metformin. I wasn't on it, nor any other form of fertility medication. Just straight Atkins! Best of luck with your TTC, and keep that hope alive, ladies! Believe me, I never thought I would be here!

Re: "PCOS" Roll call.. Jan 2007

          Hello Everyone.
I'm Hazel and I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago.
We really struggled to conceive my second son but eventually got there with clomid after about 18months of trying.
I am now on Met 500mg twice a day.

I started atkins 2 weeks ago, and can you believe it....i got AF after just 5 days!!

I dont know if it was a co incidence, but I hadn't seen her for about 3 months, and it was 4 months before that one!

Anyway I will let you know if she makes an appearance next month.

I am now loosing weight because we want to try for another baby, and I really should be at a healthier weight before we start doing that again because my last 2 pregnancies were soo difficalt (10lb baby then a 12lb baby!!) so the healthier I am the easier it will be on me.

Well I hope I get to talk to some of you soon!

Since this is a roll call, you may as well chalk my name up on your list...but...I REFUSE to feel like this "thing" is going to get me down...(for those that know some of the listed side affects, pardon the pun)...
I have read three books on the subject and feel adequately prepared to battle it...I think Atkins is a perfect weapon (to keep the metaphor going).
It gives me great hope to hear that many women at ADBB have been able to become pregnant at long last...thank you so much for sharing your stories.

Re: "PCOS" Roll call.. Jan 2007

I was diagnosed in '03, but the symptoms, and extreme weight problems have been present since I started my period the first time.

In '03, my periods stopped completely, and now, late '06/early '07, my periods are finally starting to come back, slowly, lightly, and less painfully since I have lost nearly 60 pounds. I just hope Atkins helps the weight come off easier, so the symptoms finally stop.

I can resist everything except temptation.

                  *raises hand*

I was diagnosed in my mid 20's (wow, lots of years ago now)! I wish I'd known about atkins back then and I may have succeeded to have children, but, for me, I've given up on that dream due to my age now.

TOM has always had a mind of it's own for me, but since beginning this woe, it seems to have found it's path now. At least for 2 months now. Seems to be much more regular and less .. maybe because it's visiting on a regular basis now. lol

To those tryin to or wanting to have children.. I'd say the one thing that I'd do differently would be to lose the weight and allow my body to try naturally! Good luck to ya'll!

Erin, that's very sweet to say! I guess a couple of cacklin' old hens like us can stick together and enjoy little ones from others. I have to admit, my TOM has been more frequent since I started this WOE. Before, it was basically non-existent. Atkins works in so many ways.

I had my daughter at 21 after her birth i started depo shot I GAINED 65 pounds in less then a year!. I went off the shot NEVER HAD a period for the next 2 years. I had testing low and behold I had PCOS & I was up to 260. I was TTC my last and 3rd child. I started clomid and met no luck 1st 4 rounds. Glad to see I am not the only one.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago. I started a weightloss programme, lost about 30 pounds, and herbs and was pregnant within 6 months. I belief maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for dealing with PCOS.

Me, too! I have PCOS. Been TTC for 2.5 years. I am taking a break from fertility treatments to try to lose weight. I am only giving myself until July, though, due to my age. So happy to see that some of you ladies have been able to have babies! That gives me hope!
