Re: Went to Dr. today - they want me on Metformin

Wow, I am also on Spiralactone AND metaformin, BUT I DO have diabetes, and I cant be on birth control beacuse of my high blood pressure. Metformin helps pcos and diabetes, so they will use it on you if you have just pcos. So they prob. have you on it just beacuse it helps your pcos, it will also help you lose weight by helping to control the pcos..... there is another pill to treat it also called advandia <~~ I THINK I SPElled that right >> BUT that makes u gain weight! gOOD LUCK, I just restarted the atkins for the millionith time! I just found out I had pcos through a cesarian surgery they went in and had to take some of my right ovary and cysts off boths ovaries. I am new to pcos how long have you known you had it, and have you had to have many surgeries?

just a note for any PCOS folk reading this if and only if you are insulin resistant as part of your PCOS will metaphorin help your PCOS. your doctor will run a battery of tests to determine if you are or aren't and will prescribe from there.

You know, I was saying that too until I just went to the doc and he said that for now, they are prescribing it even for women who are not insulin resistant because for reasons they are not sure of, it still seems to be helping them anyway. Plus they also are prescribing it alongside Clomid for women trying to get pregnant because they say it can up your chance of pregnancy about 30% versus Clomid alone (not sure about why on that one either---are they sure of anything? lol). Never tried to get preggo on it, so I don't know. I have to wait until February or March before he can legally prescribe the Met for me because of a stupid clause in my husband's insurance about pre-existing conditions. What a bunch of malarky.

I know why for those wanting to get preggo insulin interfers with the production of estrogen in converting the androgen into estrogen lower the androgen up the estrogen and poof they are more fertile but again they need to be resistant for it to work.
