  • Here's my story

    :wave Hi all!

Man, is it quiet in here! Maybe I can get the ball rolling a bit. My name is juju and I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001 after a miscarriage and a sudden 100lb weight gain. Since then my periods have disappeared, I haven't been able to get pregnant and my hair growth is totally out of control. Now, I have been diagnosed with HBP and that scared me half to death. My feet hurt so bad and swell after normal activities, that I cn barely walk after I get off work. I amd desperate to have a baby as well and PCOS and my weight have put a wrench in those plans. These things are the main reasons why I re-started Atkins and serious about it this time (after 9 times!).

Since starting Atkins and losing 15lbs, my period has returned, my hormone levels are getting better (no shaving facial hair everyday like before, thank God!) and I am hoping and praying that my fertility will return and my blood pressure go down. I am 38 (39 in July) and worried my time to have a baby may be over; because I know that ovulation slows way down for a woman after 35 and twice that after 40. So its now or never, probably for me. :sadblinky I am just praying to God that it's not over for me yet. I am going on the right path and lowcarbing is definitely helping everything else, maybe it will help this for me, too. I don't want to wait til I get totally thinner to try again but I would definitely get out of the 300's before I even consider it. I want to start trying again when I get in the 230-240 range. It seems high but at 6' tall, 230 would only be 45 lbs from goal for me and I can live with that. Who knows? Maybe I will end up having an Atkins baby! lol!

There is hope! I was diagnosed with PCOS in '99 after one year of marriage during that year we were trying. I experienced the same symptoms and was quite worried. I went to the fertility clinic and was put on clomid and another drug to help with the pcos. I got pregnant by the time of the next visit to the doctor. To speed things up I now have a 4 1/2 yr old, a 2 1/2 yr old and my little girl will be 1 on April 10.

Good luck, and good things happen when you least suspect it!

          :wave Megan,

thanks for sharing that with me! Every time I hear a story such as yours, it gives me hope that I still do have a chance. My husband and I are desperate to have children and we are hoping that we can achieve that with or without fertility drugs. If not, we are hoping to adopt but we would like to try and have one of our own. Things seem to be going really well so far, thanks to God. I feel very determined this time versus the last times I was on Atkins. My husband and I decided that if I can just lose another 60-70 lbs, that we would go see the doctor and start trying again. God willing, I think that I can get off 70 lbs by the end of the year so that at New years we can start trying again!

well Amenia thought there was no way she could get prec and she is now 6 weeks preg yep low carbing and Atkins corrects a lot of the hormonal imblalances many PCOS and low fertility folk have and poof preg where they thought they couldn't.

It's interesting...when I was put on the metphormin before my first child, I lost some weight then boom....got pregnant. With my second child I had lost some weight as well, then with my third baby I had been on Atkins and lost around 30lbs.

It's also amazing to hear the infertility stories when I sit in the nursery at church.
