  • Birth control pills and no weight loss

Hi, I too have PCOS and my doctor has me on Yaz birth control pills to help regulate my hormones. I've done the Atkins diet in the past and have had great results; however this time around I can't seem to lose any weight!! I just completed 2 weeks of induction and lost 4lbs the first week and nothing since...I used to lose 8-10 lbs in induction! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if it is most likely due to my oral birth control??

well.. keep in mind, that every day is not the same. So, yes maybe the first time you lost that much and now this, but that is normal. Make sure you do induction by the book and do not introduce your personal touches in there
And, if this is a peace of mind, contraceptives cause a slight water retention. But do not fret. this is something that will go away at some point. Just stick with your diet

I'm not losing either, but it doesn't matter to me, I am aiming for a healthy me. I know you may not believe this but it will come, one member just posted that she didn't lose and on the third week dropped 10 pounds.
If your unsure about your menu, post them so the folks can check it out for you. Also, make sure your using all three legs of the table, exercise, diet/water, and vitamins

Birth control pills really did contribute to the water weight gain and over all insulin resistance present with PCOS , and that is why I couldnt lose a pound, even on 0 carbs!

After coming off them I lost 10lbs steadily.

Hi, I'm new here and was happy to find a place for questions/discussion. I was wondering if I am the only person having these specific issues; first, I stopped taking my BC and my diurectic last Sunday. I started induction on Monday and went through a terrible pre-mature period (I know its because I stopped the pill before the end of the cycle) and other side effects like face breaking out...all due to the absence of the pill. I only ate cheese, meat and sugar free jello and had whole cream with coffee. That's been my diet for 7 days now, and the ketstix show light pink to dark pink depending on how much water I have had. Of, course during mensus, it showed no color. Anyway, I have lost ZERO pounds. I'm confused because I have done this diet before...years ago, and lost several pounds the first week. Is there something wrong? Given, I have not gained weight either, but I was hopin' for a little something, plus, I'm in ketosis??? Anyone have advise for me? Should I go on?

Yeah, something's wrong. You need to start induction. That includes veggies and there's absolutely no mention of them in your post. You've got to eat 2 cups of salad veggies and another cup from the induction allowed list. Have you read the book recently? It'll help so much to not deviate from the basics and follow the plan as written. I'm glad you haven't gained weight. Cut back a little on your protein, add in your veggies and I bet you'll have increased energy and see the pounds go away! You don't want to mess up your induction. It's going to be (probably) your fastest weight loss of your journey. The pill will throw everything off a little. I'm going through the same thing right now...going back on it. You may also be retaining some water due to dropping the other pill. Start over and keep us informed of your success!! Oh, get in at least 100 ounces of water daily and exercise. Set up an account over at FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. That will help you tremendously with your percentages of fat, protein and carbs. You should be at 30% protein, 65% fat and 5% carbs on induction.

Re: Birth control pills and no weight loss

              Hi Guys,

I posted a question recently in the diabetes and main forum regarding diabetes, atkins and pregnancy. I am diabetic and although not formally diagnosed suspect I also have PCOS since I have more than half of the symptoms plus I was only able to concieve my last child after taking metformin.

Anyway because of blocked fallopian tubes due to my last c-section my husband and I are looking at doing IVF to have another child. The thing is to do it in my area I would have to go on birth control tablets for a few months. The clinic only does transfers every 3 months in our area and therefore needs all the women to be on birth control to get thier cycles in sync. I've never taken oral birth control before and am also worried that it might also slow or stop my weight loss. I sincerely hope not.

Since you were on a diuretic you may be retaining water. When I ran out of my diuretic pills I didn't lose a pound until I got my refill. I've been on ortho-lo for years and its never affected my weight gain/loss. Everyone is different though. I wouldn't stop taking either if your doctor has recommended you to take them.
