Anyone taking Clomid?

My OB/GYN has decided that I can go on Clomid to increase my chances of conceiving. I have been reading a little on the side effects and weight gain is one of the side effects. Someone said that they gained 20 lbs, that is the amount of weigt that I have lost so far. I'm kind of concerned about this. If any one has any imput I would appreciate it.

Hi Erin,

Are you already on Metformin? If not then it may be a better option than clomid. It's a diabetic drug but is also used regularly to treat PCOS. It helps regulate your cycles and induce ovulation. I also think that with PCOS your chances of getting gestational diabetes may be higher and metformin could help prevent or counteract it. (In conjunction with diet and exercise Metformin helps with weight loss)

Yikes! My doctor prescribed it to me also, but I didn't know weight gain is a side-effect. Going to google now...

I agree that Metformin should be tried first, if that doesn't work then Dr.s usually prescribe a Met/Clomid combo and that seems to work for many. I plan to try clomid in a few months once I lose some weight. I had a tubal reversal in July 08 and I gained 20 lbs afterwards and I believe that is because I stressed so much over conceiving. So now I am taking a step back to work on being healthy and get my mind right LOL. Good Luck.

My OB/GYN said that she didn't think I had PCOS. So we are just doing the Clomid. If the first three rounds don't work then I'm going to have some tests done and have my DH rechecked too.

I have PCOS, took Clomid twice, 50 mg, no weight gain, also took Femara with no weight gain, I think its a pretty un-common s/e, they say 5lbs MAYBE....but I think it may be a fluctuation during treatment.

I took Serophene (a Clomid family drug) when trying to conceive 13 years ago. I didn't gain any weight from the drug, and because I was dieting at the time, I continued to lose weight until I conceived my twins a month later!
