  • Which doctor should I make an appointment with?

Hello all. Ok, so I have just recently found out about PCOS. I have not been diagnosed with it, but I have a very strong suspicion that I have it.
I have many of the symptoms, excess hair, weight gain, irregular periods (only since being off of depo provera 2 years ago), skin discoloration.
I took a test online that helps determine if you should go ask your doctor…the scores between 10-15 should make an appt, and I scored 9.5.

Let me get to the point of my post, my question is….should I make an appointment with my regular doctor or with my gynecologist?

well that will depend on the insurance you have and the knowlegde of each. they will run lots of blood tests to see if you do indeed have it and then tell you about low carb eating and some meds if you are insulin resistant PCOS. you might get refeereed to an endocrinologist too. Call your gyno and see if they want you first or not based on your symptoms and your insurance.

I honestly would reccomend seeing your gynecologist. Mine seemed SO much more knowledgeable about the subject. I had gone to my family doctor for years with my "female problems" and they never picked up on all the symptoms. Finally, at an appt for my yearly pap, my gynecologist noticed that the skin in my arm pits was darker than the rest of my skin and started asking all the right questions.
      Good luck!

Also, if you have insurance that will allow you, you might want to see an endocrinologist.
