  • Hirsutism

I know that this is a common factor in PCOS. Weirdly, I have regular cycles and have never been diagnosed with PCOS, however, I am bothered with hirsutism (extra hair), on my chin. I can't help but think that something must be wrong despite what my OB/GYN says because I have been TTC for several months to no avail. I've read there is an insulin link to hirsutism (although I don't have diabetes either).

Has anyone had this problem? If so, has this way of life (Atkins) had a positive effect on it?

    Re: Hirsutism

    hi!
i been diagnosed with pcos since i was 17, but since i still had my period and my hair wasnt unmanageable i did not care much. it started getting worse when i was 25, so since then (3 years now) i am taking a birth control pill (which is not available in the US for some reasons i do not really understand, it is the most commun cure for pcos in europe, it was already prescrived to me when i was 17, which is 11 years ago!!) to regolize the period (i had 3-4 times a year) and to "rest" my ovaries. This pill was really a great help, i stopped gaining since i took it and my hair (i really had a lot!! most of my neck and cheecks were covered) slowly stopped growing that fast and that thick. now i can decolor them and it is almost un noticible. they wont disappear totally, i was also told that.

i am new to Atkins myself, im doing since 3 weeks, and since i am still taking the pill i can't really say if it is a help on this sense. i think you should talk to ur obgyn cos he is the only one who can really help you with that. were your other hormons fine? i had too much testosterone..
I am going to my Obgyn in 2 weeks, so maybe i will have some news then!
in the mean time i can raccomend you a very interesting book i found recently:
"a patient guide to PCOS. understanding and reversing pcos" by Walter Futterweit, M.D

    Hope i was helpful!

Thanks. I've noticed that the few I'm bothered with have slowed down their growth rate since I started this WOE.
