I have read the Maint. Chapter and was wondering what other mommies used for their carb limit while pregnant. I was thinking 40-60 but was curious to what others have used. Thank you very much for any info.

Re: Reccomend For Pregnancy
40-60 net carbs daily is still a ketogenic range. You really ought to get out of ketosis during your pregnancy.
I'm aware that the information about ketosis and pregnancy are from studies that looked at ketosis in combination with hyperglycemia. There hasn't been any study I know of that has looked only at ketosis. Evenso, it's not something I would want to experiment with on my own if I were pregnant---best to err on the side of caution, imo.~Megs~

Re: Reccomend For Pregnancy
Dr A in his book said it was perfectly ok to do the maintenance phase in his book. When I was pregnant, I stayed around the 100g range and didn't gain any weight (that was in my last trimester). In my first 2 trimesters, morning sickness wouldn't allow me to eat much carbohydrates - I survived off of salad, berries, melon and a few ounces of protein a day and have a very healthy baby girl to show for it - plus I lost 20 lbs. Bottom line: stick with lower carb - you can't go wrong there. You'll maintain your weight, baby will be healthy and acid reflux will be minimal (in later trimesters) and you won't be so tired.27 F 5' 7"

Re: Reccomend For Pregnancy
Doing the Maintenance Phase is fine: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, whole dairy products, etc. You can find your CCML (Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level) by increasing your carbs by 10 nets (like you would if you were doing Pre-Maintenance), until you stop losing and your weight remains steady. Yes, it is a bit of work. But then, it will eliminate the guesswork for you.

Re: Reccomend For Pregnancy
yep oh and about those ketones no matter how high you go you will still have some ketones but neonatal brain tissue is made from ketones so let the baby have them. Weight loss while prego is the bad issue cause the female body's reaction to weight loss is seflpreservation and it will not share much with the baby of your foods if it doesn't abort the child outright.
Unfortunately the link to the Atkins.com dietician who was preggo and did did maintnenance no longer works as they got rid of her article and her list of good maintnenance level carbs to have like the ones Megs listed for you.
