  • Hi There, Wanted to join this fourm!

I intro'd myself on the spotlight board but thought I would come here..

I am nursing my 1month old. And am trying to get back on track with my weight. When I was pregnant I was really bad and had sugar sugar sugar

Ended up with Gest diabetes and wanted to know how much my son weighed??

    11lbs 6oz's

yes ...I know..I can hear the gasps in the audience!!

All do to my poor diet! Luck I didn't do permanent damage to him or me!

I am having a hard time sticking with it though! I keep thinking that this is the time that I should be enjoying food...but that is so wrong for me because the "food" I want is nothing but sweets!

I decided to try again after my sister recommended this forum and I read the post's and see how supportive you all are...it has made me want to try again!

Almost didn't make it today though! But coming here has given me new hope. And I did make it through day one and didn't cheat! So that is an accomplishment right??

thanks again and hope I can get to know you all!

Re: Hi There, Wanted to join this fourm!

Hi Trisha! Welcome to the forum! I nursed both of my boys and am so glad to have made it to over a year with the first one! The second one had SEVEN teeth at 6 months and he is a biter! I was very sad to give it up but after a while, I wasn't even pumping enough for him. Anyway....I am always glad to meet a mom who nurses so congratulations on that! And I too had big boys (9lbs15oz and 10lbs 10 ounces - #2 was s whole weeks early but no gest. diabetes).

As far as weight loss etc, what are you goals and what type of foods are you eating? If you could post a menu or share some info, we could look at it for you. It is very important to stick with your supplements during this time for both you and your baby. Also, you want to carefully track your intake in order to keep your calories up enough that your milk supply does not diminish. (Maintenance style eating is recommended.) This way of eating will keep you satisfied longer than other "diets" so you tend to naturally suppress calories which could affect your supply.

Also, if you go too low on the carbs (same for too much excercise too quickly) and drop your weight too quickly, you risk your supply and also the release of the toxins that are naturally stored in your fat reserves. I know it sounds like a lot but you will do just fine with all of the support and info here at !

Between your new food choices and all those extra reserves you are burning just through the breastfeeding, your baby pounds will start melting away before you know it! I am by no means an expert but these are things that I experienced and I just wanted to pass them along. Post a menu/goal if you get a chance and maybe some others can chime in too!

    Good luck!!
