  • Nursing / Atkins Question

    Aloha -

My youngest is 3 months old and is still exclusively nursing. I am not doing induction or OWL levels of carbs but I am keeping them under 80 a day and eating all foods not going by the rungs - I want to make sure my milk supply does not suffer. I'm eating great, exercising, still taking pre-nates, losing weight (I was losing slowly anyways post-partum but I'm trying to jump start it a bit), feeling great, no sugars, no significant flours, lots of veggies and flax, yummy meat etc.

I have however noticed something 'different' regarding the baby's diapers in the past week or so. Her usual BM's were always pretty bright yellow/orange (as were my older children's when they were nursing). Since I've eliminated a lot of sugar carbs and increased my leafy green carbs her BM's have been more dull yellow/green rather than the bright color before.

I was wondering if anyone new anything about this - She is eating well, my milk is still coming in strong, she's gassier than usualy but not constipated at all I'm just wondering if there is something specific that I'm now leaving out of my diet (or that I've added) that is causing this in her.

Any info would be great -

    Thanks
    Aloha

    Ellie

    Re: Nursing / Atkins Question

I would think the increase of vegies would cause that. If you are worried ask her Dr but I think you are doing great

discuss it with her doc and make sure she is thriving.

breast milk is pretty carby compared to cow milk but you could be passing less carbs to her and the intestinal flora in her gut are not eating as well as your other kids were.

Ellie: you are doing great! Your diet is awesome! What you are seeings, as far as BMs, sounds entirely normal. I don't think the change in your baby's BMs is related to your diet. As your baby gets older, her digestive system will mature, and the BMs will change. I saw the same change in my son's BM at around 3 months, and I did not change my diet. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
