  • Should I try or continue to diet?

    Hello everyone,

I have lost a total of 32 pounds since starting atkins. I currently weigh 214 pounds. Lately, my husband and I have been considering having another baby (our baby now is 5 years old). However, I don't know if I should just weight and continue to loose weight and then try or if I should just start trying now. The thing that I am scared of is of course regaining. Any advice or pregnancy story that any of you would like to share?

    Thanks ladies.

In my opinion, its a personal thing... if it was me, id want to be losing weight, if i fell pregnant i'd then move on to maintenance.

    Atkins makes most very fertile!

Re: Should I try or continue to diet?

I've been there and done that. I had weighed 230 in Oct of 2005 and had lost 35lbs altogether on Atkins by March. I had tried to keep with the plan to lose more weight when I discovered in July that I was pregnant - and I wasn't trying. My point is this: If you wish to have a baby and to lose weight, why not do both? While you are trying, stick to the plan and enjoy the weight you lose until you are expecting your next one, then move to maintenance. I just had my baby and she seems really healthy despite any potential naysayers opinions on the subject. I have only regained 15lbs and one size, but sticking with the program made the 2nd time of delivery much EASIER.

        Oooh....babies are sooo precious

My "babies" are 11 and 8, and if I new then what I know now I would have lost my "post" baby weight from DD #1 before #2. However, babies are just so sweet and it's a personal opinion to add to your family. What ever the decision you and your DH make, I would say make sure you stay the course of exercise and eating right

        Have fun...litterally!

Thank you so much you guys. I really appreciate your imput. I will continue to stay on the diet until the time comes, because I have been waiting for 5 years to lose the weight before the second baby and only now is when its happening. I will keep you guys updated. This board has been so good to me. Thank you all so much for all your support and encouragement.

Re: Should I try or continue to diet?

Considering your ticker has a pacifier, I am assuming you are really interested in being a mommy again?
Consider the pros and cons (including the superficial ones, such as VANITY ). You are making progress, so consider how much longer you and your husband may be willing to "wait" before becoming pregnant again....For example, say you will try in 3-6 months... I am not sure when you started Atkins, but calculate how much you lose per month and then how much that will be over a 3-6 month period. Even if you lose 3 lbs a month, over 3-6 months, that is 9-18 lbs which would bring you under the 200 lb marker. A lot of people feel so much better when they get to ONE-derland (weight in the "100's").

            Good luck to you.

Re: Should I try or continue to diet?

I found it a little tough to get pregnant because of the rapid weight shift. I was using ovulation tests and I was just simply not ovulating.

It took about 3 months of testing everyday and when it happened it was a total shock. DH and I planned a "date" in the wee morning hours and that afternoon I took the test expecting another negative and what do you know, the stick was positive. I was pregnant and I'm about to deliver any day now.

As far as staying OP, I couldn't do it but I plan to restart after this bundle arrives. I applaud those ladies who can stand up to pregnancy cravings. lol.
