Well before I got pregnant I was taking supplements. I was taking Vanadyl, chromium, green tea capsules, and glucomannan. I stopped the green tea obviously because its caffeine. But I stopped the others too, and now Im wondering if I needed to? Glucomannan is basically fiber...and the vanadyl and chromium help with your blood sugars. Those are the ones Im wondering if its okay to take while ur pregnant? Im gonna do some online research but was just wondering if anyone knew about them while pregnant..... thanks!

Re: Taking extra vitamins while pregnant?
Your best bet is to ask your doctor. Supplements that are OK to take just by yourself can be overpowering to your baby. Stick with your multi or prenantal until you get a chance to check.27 F 5' 7"

Re: Taking extra vitamins while pregnant?
slimndown is right. I would check first. I am a believer in supplements and at the hospital they gave me my prenatals and told me to stop taking my supplements ASAP and to only take the prenatals. The nurse said that some supplements will be overpowering for the baby plus they can actually cause reactions and/or cancel out the important vitamins. So be careful.

Re: Taking extra vitamins while pregnant?
Let's clarify this - you titled the thread "Taking extra vitamins while pregnant?" yet have only mentioned having previously taken (and discontinued) non-vitamins. My experience is many doctors recommend a prenatal vitamin supplement (either prescribed or not), to ensure adequate nutrients are available for health (Mom's and baby's). The formulation typically includes folic acid and bone-building minerals required by the fetus to grow properly. Your nutrient intake may or may not supply you and your child's needs during gestation & lactation if you breastfeed. If you are eating Atkin's maintenance regimen, though, you are probably way ahead of most expectant moms (including meeting your fiber needs). Check your doctor...~Susan
