  • Getting pregnant after losing...

Okay, maybe I am the only one, but I just wondered has anyone else lost weight and then been a little hesitant about getting pregnant? As a former 350 pounder, the thought of gaining weight scares me sometimes. I have 3 wonderful children, all of which I carried while being overweight. I was the biggest with my last child and weighed a little over 300 pounds at the start.. I was always afraid I would gain and the scale at the Dr. office wouldn't weigh me, and my doc told me it would be healthier if I wasn't so heavy. I have always wanted one more baby, but told myself I would not have one until I lost weight.. My original goal was to atleast be under 250 pounds before getting preg, but now I am well under that and I know it is time, since my last child is 7 now. When I mention it to my sweet hubby, he gets a little worried too, he says that he knows how hard I have worked and doesn't want me to be upset. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW having a baby is well worth it, and I now I wouldn't gain all my weight back, and I know I can always lose after the baby is born.. I just wondered if it is normal to be a little apprehensive?? I think right now I am gonna spend the next few months really getting into my walking and exercising routine, then move onto a maintenance eating plan and think about trying to conceive. I want to be able to be in condition to walk daily and even exercise while pregnant..

I am sure lots of ladies have these issues. I would discuss it first with your OB but if you follow maintenance, there is no reason why you would gain the weight back

    41 pounds down and counting

Just my opinion here but .....

I lost 44lbs last summer. I got pregnant again in Oct. At first I was determined to stick to Lifetime Maintenance but then I found fear of gaining was working against me. I was so darned stressed about keeping off weight that I wasn't eating properly either not enough or lack of proper variety for nutritional needs. Finally, I realized I was making myself crazy with it all. So, now I eat. I eat craved foods that are crappy even. I just try to maintain balance. I wanted to enjoy my pregnancy not be a slave to my scale. I'm 21 weeks now and have gained 12lbs. Normal for this point is 10-15lbs according to my research. I just lay off the garbage when I see it going overboard. Trust yourself to do what's right for you and your baby. Buy a pregnancy nutrition book and use it for this appropriate time in your life. Worry about Atkins later in my opinion.

eating Atkins maintenances is perfect for being pre4g so you won't have to worry about gaining it all back again and once you deliver you can either use the 500 cals a day for breast milk production to asssit you in losing your weight or return to induction if you will not be breast feeding. that 350 pounder chasing you can't get back in as long as you understand the pick proof lock you have and that is controlling your carbs.

Enjoy the healthier smaller you and if y'all decide er I guess i should say like Dawn found out God decides for you that you are to have another child you can keep her out.

Thanks for the replies.. That is basically what I had decided anyway.. Gonna try maintenance.. I plan to never add bad carbs back into my diet..I don't want to be that person again.. I guess it is just hard to let go of that "fear" inside me.. And maybe I am kinda afraid of jumping to maintenance because I don't really know how many carbs I will need to eat, and I know that I have heard maintenance is the hardest stage for alot of folks.. But I will cross that bridge when it comes!!

          Thanks again everyone!

Getting preggo after losing 95 pounds wasn't my plan, and one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind when I found out was "well there goes my weight loss". I will admit that I miss the weigh ins and watching those that started with me pass me in pounds lost now! LOL

THe thing I have promised myself is that this will be the most healthiest pregnancy of my life. I'm staying in maintenance, and as soon as I get taken off bedrest, I'll start exercising again.
