  • Has anyone here.......?

It has been a little while since I have been here and posting. Here is why....
Has anyone on this board followed LC while being pregnant? I am only in my first trimester and from waht I am reading maintenance is prob the best way to go while being preggers. I was hoping to maybe see a sample menu or maybe any suggestions. Thanks

Rozi, I am no doctor, and have no experience with this, but I'm pretty sure that following Maintenance is the way to go. Eat lots of veggies and fruit, some good whole grains, proteins, good fats, etc. Maintenance %s are usually 30% protein, 50% fat, 20% carbs.

You need to eat some carbs as ketosis while pregnant is not good. You might cross reference Atkins maintanance with the Brewer's Diet and then do Atkins post partum (at least 6 months if you are nursing)
Here's info on the Brewer's diet The Brewer Pregnancy Diet

WoW Erika...that Brewer's diet info is just wonderful. Thank you so much for posting it. It make a bunch of sense to me. I am going to the docs on Mon and I am showing him this for sure. I need to do something cause i am gaining too much as it is and already tested positive for Gestational Diabetes. Thanks again.

                      Re: Has anyone here.......?

I'm a firm believer in not making weigh an issue. I truely believe that a women's body will gain what it needs - given that mom is eating a healthy diet. But when you are pre diabetic with GD during pregnancy the tides turn. Unfortunately our maternity care system in this country doesn't value good nutrition. (I had a midwife attend homebirth with my first) When we found out the second pregnancy was twins I began reading like a nut. The first thing my midwife told me was protien, protien, protien. and gave the names of sereral research studies and two books (Authors by OB's on multiple pregnancies). I interviewed 13 OB's with my twin pregnancy. and NOT A SINGLE one of them was interested in the nutrtion info even though all the research (again done by OB's) suggested that a diet high in protien, low carbs/sugar, and no junk helped moms to carry twins to term. I was so determined and frustrated. Their goal was "to get me to" 33 weeks. I said "GARBAGE" i am going full term! At first I jsut asked simple questions "Well, what do you suggested I do about added nutrtion?" "How can nutrition help prevent this or that?" I finally after a good push had one doc who said "Well, eat a little more." I was flabbergasted. When we started discussing all the other things, I knew it wasn't the care I needed. i ended up finding a midwife with tons of twin experience, carried my girls to term and had 2 full sized babies at: 7lbs 6oz and 7lb 4oz baby girls and 39 weeks.

The president of our local ICAN chapter struggled to find a care provider for a VBAC after mutliple c-sections and she has a history of GD. She did the BRewer's diet and although became very borderline again - avoid insulin which she needed for her other pregnancies.

It's not easy to do - But giving yourself every optimal chance is paramunt to me. I live for no regrets!

Good luck to you! If you have any questions or need a sounding board - I'd be happy to help

                        Re: Has anyone here.......?

I am going to follow this WOE (Brewer's Diet) regardless to what the doc may say. He will have to give me a **** of a good reason not too. I have an appt with the midwife today and have printed out the diet for her to look at. It make complete sense. That proff that you carried your twins to term and they weighed in at normal birth weights should prove a lot too. Thanks again and I will let you know what they say about this WOE.

I showed the doc a print out of the Brewer's Pregnancy Diet and he read it over and gave me his approval. He said the same thing as I did. It make sense. He told me to give it a try and see how I feel. So all is well and a go I will give it. Thanks again Erika
