  • Nursing and induction DD 7.5 months old

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Michelle and I live in Va Beach, Va. I am diabetic and on insulin. My DD was born March 12th and I was on a Diabetic diet my entire pregnancy. Roughly 150-195 carbs a day. I only gained 19-20 lbs while pregnant.

I had 30 carbs for bk
    15-30 carbs snack mid morning
    45 carbs for lunch
15-30 carbs for mid afternoon snack
    30 carbs for dinner
    15-30 evening snack

Some times I didn't eat the snacks. I lost all but 5 lbs within 6wks of having my baby but have since gained all back but 5-6 lbs. My pre-preggo weight was 171.5 and my ending weight was 190-191.5. I am now between 181.5 and 185.5 depending on the day and what I eat.

I need to loose some weight I am the heavest I have ever been while not pregnant. I would love to loose 30lbs before New Years. I am starting induction tomorrow. I know it will be a rough 14 days but I need to do something. I will be eating the full 20 carbs to at least try to keep up my milk supply. I would love to hear how others who are nursing did with induction. I have a milk stash in the freezer in case my milk drops.

Looking forward to talking to others in my shoes.

    Michelle

Hello and thanks for stopping by. I have lost 15 lbs since Oct 22,08. I am still nursing twice a day but mostly on solids and formula. Are you still nursing at all?

How old is your baby? My LO is 10 months old now.

How much weight are you looking to loose? My new goal is 159 by March 12th. My daughter will be 1 yr old and I will be what I was at my birthday in 06. I hope to reach 145 by October 20th ( my birthday).

My son is 7.5 month old, I am nursing him still, probably 4 times a day, he is mostly on solid foods (3 meals a day). I have lost 2 lbs but this is just water weight I think. As I am nursing I am slowly reducing my carb intake before I go to induction full way, I need to give my body time to get adjusted. I need to loose 60 lbs total. But my REAL mini -goal is to reach 150 lbs by next summer, so I will be able to go to the swimming pool with my son without looking like a Porky Mama. I tried to loose weight on WW last November and it did not work at all, I gained
Did induction reduce your milk supply? My son is not taking formula at all, so I am concerned a lot about it. I stocked up on mother's milk tea and supplements just in case.

          Hello Rina,

My daughter was 8 months old when I started induction. I had a freezer full of frozen breast milk in case I had a decrease in milk supply. Do you have much milk frozen? I also got fenugreek and took those 3 times a day X ( 4 pills) to help boost my supply. I think it works. I also started her on formula here and there at around 8.5 months and now she gets mostly formula and nurses 2-3 times a day and solid foods 2-3 times a day.

The big thing is that induction is only 2 weeks. You may not loose as much as others and your weight lost may be slower than others due to BF but you will loose. I lost 8 lbs the first week and only a half pound the second half of induction. But I lost 8.5 lbs in 2 weeks not bad. From Oct 22 to Dec 19 I lost a total of 13 lbs. I also moved on to OWL at the end of my induction as to not loose milk supply as much. I am now back on plan and have lost 2.6 lbs since the new year. I am down 15.6 lbs total. My daughter is 10 months and 1 week old and I am trying to wean her but not forcing it either.

You can also do a modified plan and go to a 50 carbs a day plan and see how it goes. This way you can still nurse and loose weight slowly if giving formula is not in your plans for your daughter.

Keep in touch! Good luck with what ever you decide is best for you and your baby.

Re: Nursing and induction DD 7.5 months old

Michelle, thanks for reply and advice to try 50 grams of carbs a day. Well today I was on 30 grams of carbs and my milk supply is lower than it was :-( I drink mother milk tea all the time but it does not seem to be helping too much. The kid also pitched a fit because he did not have enough milk/did not like the taste, I tried to give him some formula and that made him so upset. (I had some frozen milk before but I tossed it because Erik refused to drink that thawed milk for some reason and all stock I had expired.) So I will follow the modified diet. I think there is the sertain level my body wants me to maintain for now. BTW the nutritionist I talked to last spring advised me to have no more than 1-2 servings of carbs a meal. Still plenty, I need to go 1 serving a meal. I am planning to get those extra carbs from veggies and berries, nuts too and watch my portions. I have lost 4 lbs this week, water weight, of course.
Do you do any exercise? I stroll the kid for an hour everyday and want to find that time to have a good workout. And also I've noticed I got so thirsty. I have to keep 20oz glass net to my bed at night

What kind of formula are you giving? I found my daughter didn't like enfamil and only takes good start. Yes you should be drinking 100-120 oz of water since this diet is a diuretic. So to have enough water in your body to produce the needed milk you need lots of water. I also drink 1-2 glasses of water during the night. But the rule of thumb is if you get thristy then you are a bit dyhadrated.

I didnt find much help in the tea so that is why I went to the fenugreek pills. I took 4 pills 3 times a day and it helped. You can work up to that many so the baby will get used to the taste of your milk. Also when feeding him formula try letting someone other than you feed him since he equates you with nursing.

I have not been doing too much excersice but I hope to once the weather warms up here.

Just so you know.. frozen milk can last in your regular freezer for up to 4 months or longer. In deep freezer 12 months +. I have milk from last May in my freezer now and I still give her frozen milk.

Now some people have a problem with milk being frozen it is called Lipsis or something like that. The milk breaks down and causes an enzyme to form making the milk have an off taste on the prego board I was on they talked about bringing the breast milk to almost boiling then a rapid cool off, then freeze. Not sure if this is your problem or not. Does your milk smell funny if it is thawed even though you froze it right away?

yes, it does smell weird. I think that';'s why Erik refuses to drink thawed milk. I got more milk plus capsules, thay help a lot.
Erik does not drink formula, we just use it for making his cereal because he does not want to eat cereal made with breastmilk . He never had a bottle and does not know what to do with it anyway

I started real induction yesterday my weight now is about 185 lbs now

                  Hey Ladies

I am nursing a 7 month old fully, she doesnt like solids but I am trying very hard to get her on them properly as she is supposed to be eating 3 times a day.

Got to 180 , lost around 30 lbs after her birth but gained it all back when breast feeding

Always hungry, not enough time to cook, making bad food choices

This is all about to change! I hope! I really need support!n ~ I hope you guys can help me ~

I am trying to lose 50lbs

I also have PCOS so my symptoms are out of control with this excess weight

                  Need some quick induction recipies

Also how was your milk supply affected ?

                  Thanks ladies x
