  • Pregnant - HELP!!!

I am expecting my second baby in January. While I am excited about the baby, I am also concerned about gaining too much weight (when I had my son in Aug. 2008 I weighed 278lbs.). I am currently maintaining around 171lbs. and do NOT want to explode like I did last time.

Can anyone give me low carb ideas that are safe for pregnancy? What could I eat that won't cause me to start packing on weight (if I eat a healthy, "normal" diet the weight WILL start coming on...). Any advice is appreciated!

    Re: Pregnant - HELP!!!

    Hi

Congratulations and best wishes for a safe pregnancy.

Are you eating Atkins maintenance-style menus at present? If so just continuing to eat the same way should allow you not to add fat to your body.

Avoiding the 'whites' (sugar/flour/white rice/etc) and keeping your higher rung food choicees 'occasional' would be perfectly healthy and just what Dr Atkins suggested in DANDR

If however you have drifted into a more carby area of eating then maybe returning to maintenance food choices and eating around your CCLM would be a good move.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

      Re: Pregnant - HELP!!!

When I was pregnant with my DD I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I followed the Diabetic diet which is just like Atkins Maintenance, imo. I stayed away from all the white stuff and ate complex carbs, no simple carbs. Also stayed away from empty calories. I only gained 19 pounds throughout my pegnancy.
Ditto what Eli says as well.
Oh, and congratulations, wishing you a happy, joyful and healthy pregnancy.

        Re: Pregnant - HELP!!!

Thanks ladies. I was doing Induction when I got pregnant. I've increased my carbs but I'm scared to add too many. I really don't want to blow up like I did last time!
