  • Guess who's headed for the endo as well?!

    Ugh. Yep. Me.

I know squat about it too, but the tests my MD ran says I'm borderline hyperthyroid. (My test results are at home, but the number .44 is what springs to mind.)

Any direction on stuff to read up on would be appreciated. I'm clueless, and really - clueless is a color that doesn't suit me and isn't my style at all. LOL

Re: Guess who's headed for the endo as well?!

hyper means you are have too much thyroid hormone and as a result it is sending signals to your brain not to produce the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone called TSH in your blood work.

There are lots of temporary things that can cause that too other then Graves disease.
Did your doc schedule any follow up tests?
this is just a partial list of things that can cause it to change

you have lowered your your intake of chemicals like birthcontrol pills or plant estrogen like compounds and your T4 isn't becoming protein bound and is free to enter your cells where it is needed as T3 which would cause the negative feed back for the production of TSH giving you a lower TSH number. Lots of women experience this change at menopause too.

Eating less groitegen foods will do the same thing so you might want to check the list posted in here and see if that is the case.

Increasing your Calcium intake will cause the para thyroid to lower its amount of bone robbing calcium removal signals that interfer with thyroid hormone production and as a result you can have to much Thyroid being produced to compensate until the negative feed back foir that low TSH catches up.

Check your supplements too as some have thyroid stimulating compounds and that can cause the low TSH too.

On the good side right now having a low TSH means your metabolism should be working much better for your weight loss as many hyper folk see a rapid weight loss as their first symptom. BUT there are other more dangerous chnages that will occur as I'm sure your foc warned you about and to watch out for.

      LOL. Thanks 2big.

Yep. The TSH value is .44 and yep, I have an endocrinologist follow-up scheduled, so before I get to diggin' too much and over analyzing, I'll get those test results going on.

After the meeting here this morning at my condo complex (major fire - will post more on that later), I'm going to sleep and then start doing some reading up on this stuff.

Thanks for the feedback - knew I could count on you

No clue. I went in with some complaints and she ran a TSH. I've been referred now to the endo, but haven't made the appt yet. I'll keep ya posted!

I found out most info from doing an online search of "Graves Disease" And of course asking the doc.

Hi. I'm new to this board and was browsing around and found your post.

Did you ever find out anything more about your thyroid? I'm asking because a year ago my levels were borderline hyperthyroid too and my doctor just said to have a blood test every year to keep an eye on it.

I have heard that sometimes something will attack the thyroid so first you will test with high levels and then the thyroid will stop working properly and you will develop hypothyroidism. I think that may be happening to me know because I feel chilly all the time and I have a low grade fever most of the time (around 99.5).

Sorry, I'm new to forums as well as Atkins. Did you mean if you ignore the thyroid thing it will go away or if you ignore the old post it will go away?

DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH HYPERTHYROIDISM.

I had full-blown Graves Disease back in 1997 and it was horrendous!

It was hard to get here my body does not want to go further. feel like im starving to death. last night had to eat more couldn't continue. want to break throught 290 but when i get close to that i feel like my body is suffering to much to push through. is this normal. I end up haveing to eat more and then i go up 3 lbs and try again to break through get close and can't. I end up with head ackes and dizzy and super low power. diet is fine just my body is saying no no. Is this the thyroid?

hey again glad you found the forum.

start your own topic in here and ask all the questions you want and folk will answer your questions as best they can.
you are going to be amazed at the changes as you go from that high TSH back to a normal level. it is going to take months but you will be better every day a little as every cell in your body has been drprived and not making the chems and stuff it should be soyou have a whole cascade effect going on there.

                              Happy low carbing.
