  • Maybe Atkins kick starts thyroids?

It makes me wonder because I just got my TSH levels rechecked. About 6 weeks ago my TSH was .079 (lab's range: .540-5.700) and today it's at .097.

I was on 135mg Armor so we went to 120mg, and that's what I've been on the past 6 weeks. Now I'm going to go down to 90mg, but it makes me wonder... is my thyroid starting to work more efficiently? Would that be because of Atkins, or losing weight or what?

I knew the TSH had gone up some because my heart palpitations have been better. I'm hoping they'll get better even yet now

She had considered putting me on 105mg (a 90mg and 15mg), but decided since there wasn't that big a change between the 135 and 120 we'd go down lower to 90. Are there any issues going down a lot at once?

It will depend on you. Make sure you don't change anything else in your eating and activity levels nor suppliments until your next test. There are many mnay things that can effect our Thyroid hormone levels from female hjormones to something simple like iodine in our diet. There are lots of changes Atkins gives you in many factors effecting thyroid production that could have corrected what was causing your current problem.

Your doc will keep making changes till she finds the correct level for you inside that range. That will be where you are symptom free with the smalles possible dose of meds.

    Happy low carbing.

DO I ever know what you're talking about I was when I started at 285 LBS on 150 MCG of Synthyroid since Starting atkins I ahve gone down to 75 MCG and I think it may have to be lowered again can you belive that it's amazing AKINS is making my thyroid work better how exciting the idea of not having to be on meds is exciting. I'm not sure if it'll ever happen but, hey if it does I won't complain any.

          Good for you.

it could be that on your Atkins eating you are not eating things that interfer with your thyroid hormone usage or your calcium intake is higher and as such your parathyroid isn't producing hormones because of low calcium levels that counter production of thyroid hormone too. There are many complicated reasons why each of us is hypothyroid. Those of us with autoimmune hypothyroid better known as Hasimoto's will always need our meds and in ever increasing doses.
