  • Have I been messing up big time?

I've been taking my Armour dose at night at the same time I take my birth control... will this mess up my hormones?

I've been feeling terrible lately, well, since I started the birth control about three weeks ago and I am just wondering if I should take them separately. Do you think that would help?

Apparently it isn't so good to take them with certain birth control pills no matter the time of day. It can increase or decrease the effectiveness.

If you take Armour Thyroid with certain other drugs, the effect of either drug could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Armour Thyroid with the following:

    Asthma medications such as Theo-Dur
    Blood thinners such as Coumadin
    Cholestyramine (Questran)
    Colestipol (Colestid)
Estrogen preparations (including some birth control pills such as Ortho-Novum and Premarin)
    Insulin
Oral diabetes drugs such as Diabinese and Glucotrol)

estrogen alters blood proteins and thyroid hormone binds with this blood protein making it unavailible for your cells to use. Even if you take them at seperate times you will need to see your doc to check your level of free T4 to see if you need a higher dose of your meds.

      Happy low carbing.

Also you should not take them with your mutivitamin or Iron pills. It decreases Absorption.

I take mine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and wait 1 hour to eat I was told to do this By my Endo who is also Hypo so I am in good hands YAY!!!

Out your Pills right beside your bed in the morning and take them when you get up.

Also the Extra hormones in the Birth control bind to your Thyroid and you may actually need more thyroid hormone while taking the pill my dosage had to be Upped when I was on the pill. I find that the pill just makes me feel sich and Lousey so I ended up getting a non hormonal IUD which I love not for everyone though. I was tired of spotting and feeling crappy all the time.
