  • Thyroid Antibody?

I recently went to an allergy doctor and have begun allergy shots. The allergy doc sent me to the lab to have several blood test done. One of the results is that one (1) of my thyroid antibodies is "high". Doc wants me to get Pneumonia vacination and then in 8 weeks wants to redo blood test.

What does a high thyroid antibody mean?

A high Thyroid Antibody may mean you are developing Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune response to the thryoid. This will utlimately lead to hypothyroidism. My thyroid has been completely destroyed by Hashimoto's and after 20 years my antibody is above 700, even with no healthy thryroid tissue left. I would suggest you get your lab results and get to an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid disorders. Good luck..Dawn

yep if you got the antibodies you got Hastimoto's and could now be in the beginning stage or even subclinical stage. you need a full thyroid panel to see how far you are. there is no cure and every cell in your body needs thyroid to function so when thyroid is low metabolism is low and weight loss is hard

I would suggest you get this checked ASAP. When I started with the Hashimotos, I began to have terrible pain all over my body. It was horrible, then I was tired all the time, which is still happening today, but not that bad. If you have hashimotos you want an endocrinologist who can keep track of how much damage is done to your thyroid. Mine is totally destroyed at this point and full of nodules. I get mine ultrasounded in the office. Dawn

          Re: Thyroid Antibody?

I got a copy of the lab results from my allergy doc's office. Here goes:

Doc said these are high -
          Thyroid Autoantibodies:
          Thyroglobulin Antiboidies 260 (<20 IU/ml)

          Immunoglobulin E 195 (<OR=114 kU/L)

Doc said this is OK -
          TSH w/reflex to FT4 2.60 (0.40-5.50)

Other test were done - mostly Pneumo IGG's of different types and other Immunoglobulins.

I found out it takes about 2 months to get an appointment with an Endocrinologist so I plan to call for an appointment ASAP.
