  • Non-Functioning Nodule & Atkins?

Last summer my dr found a 3.9CM cold-non functioning nodule on the right lobe of my thryoid. We did all the tests, including FNA biopsy, and ruled out cancer. I had all my levels checked, and everything was great. It is not producing, or absorbing anything. So now I am in a wait and see approach..simply because of the size, dr wasnts to remove it if it gets any bigger.

My question is, I don't really comprehend what the relationship between thryoid problems, and Atkins is..can it cause harm? Since I've never been on any medication for Thryoid..I don't understand. Just something that has been in the back of my mind lately.

HI, There is no relationship that I know of between thyroid problems and atkins. It is just people who have an underactive thyroid or Hashimoto's thyroiditis have a much harder time loosing weight and require hormone replacement. I can tell you from being in the medical field and having a multinodular thyroid, keep on top it. Thyroid nodules can turn cancerous, and also, it doesn't matter what your age is. I see young people with thyroid cancer all the time. It is a good thing you had a FNA and had it checked for malignancy. Have it ultrasounded on a regular basis. You will be fine.........Dawn
