  • Low Dose Synthroid

I have been recently placed on Synthroid a very low dose as my thyroid isnt that out of whack yet, but the numbers were on a steady climb.

I am wondering about what effects taking a thyroid medicine will have on this woe.

I am really new to this, vs some of you guys and would like to know what i need to expect. What roadblocks have you guys had taking thyroid meds, has the weightloss been as good, better, worse.. What is the average weightloss you have seen.

Im not trying to set myself up for failure but would like to konw what some history has been for people with thyroid disorders. THanks

    thyroid

Iwas taking synthroid for the last 15+years. Last week the Dr. changed my meds. I am now taking T3T4 combo. Anyhow, back when I was diagnosed I had to have surgery to have part of my thyroid removed. I always felt that my weight gain and failure to lose was partially due do my hypo thyroid. Well, I still feel that way, but it is possible to lose the weight on Atkins :nod It may take time but it does work. I started on Oct. 7th and I have lost 22 lbs. and 17" thus far. I have slowed down but I am not giving up no matter how long it takes I will reach my goal.
Good luck to you on your journey :yes You can do it!

You have a great doctor to get you back in control when you were only slightly off. How low is your dose?

The synthroid shouyld assst your weight loss as long as you don't have any troub;e converting T4 to T3 as some hypothyroid flk do. All your cells need it the active form for metabolism and to do their function in the very complicated biochemical reactions of our bodies. Since you were just started on the thyroid hormones and you are already eating your Atkins veggies you should be okay and not have to worry about any goitrogen interference from those youare already eating. You will want to watch for them in your future rungs and tell your doc you arer adding them to your diet so he can test you for any changes in your levels.

      Happy low carbing.

I too am on Syntharoid after having my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer, I have had a really hard time losing weight over the years, however, so far I have done really well on Atkins (induction 12# in 1.5 weeks) Just be sure you take your meds as you are supposed to and you should be fine.

I am sorta borderline too (I think my non-medicated TSH was like 6.0 something). I was off Synthroid last year when I was unemployed and out of money/no insurance and I gained alot of extra weight.

Got a new job, health insurance and over last year, in addition to taking Synthroid again and adjusting dosage, I slowly began to lose weight. I don't lose as fast as others, but taking it definitely helps. I also have fibromyalgia and can't exercise as much, so that might be a factor as well. I also take CoQ10 and L-Carnitine, which seems to help me some too.

I would expect it should help you with weight loss. I think I lose maybe 5-6 lbs a month, with limited exercise. Not as fast as some, but slow is not a bad thing. I've also have a few stalls. But I am in this for the long haul, as no other diet has ever worked for me.
