Hashimoto's - Do you have an inkling as to what caused it?

I do. I believe mine was triggered due to severe stress inflicted on me and my family by my own mother.

Here is a very interesting interview that may help you figure out what could possibly have triggered your Hashimoto's. Usually if it was stress, you can pinpoint a time in your life, where you lived with severe stress for a few years.
