I want to try this but it says the ingredients in the med contains Dextrose (sugar). How will this affect Atkins? Anyone taking it? Has it affected your weight loss in an adverse way?

The pills are VERY small. I take 180 MG, and I would estimate that its close to the size of an Aspirin. I can't imagine that there is much dextrose in it. I have been in Ketosis without a problem while taking armour.

I have not had any of the extra tests done. Even though my TSH was considered "normal", my T3 uptake was low. The last physician I visited told me that he stopped using blood work to diagnose thyroid, and strictly goes by body temperature.

Re: Just diagnosed and SUPER scared!!!!!!!!

I've been taking Armour thyroid since I was 5 years old. Was diagnosed when I passed out cold while my mom was brushing my hair.

I've done fine with medication. Some side effects of hypothyroidism and the medication we take can be osteoporosis, so be sure to take your calcium and do weight bearing exercise. Also, your dr should keep a close eye on it--it's not good if your dosage is too high, either.

It's a problem that's fairly easily fixed--there are so many worse things you could have. Take your pill regularly and if you have any weird symptoms, call your doctor. Synthroid made me have major intestinal problems, so if you start having stomach cramps or diarrhea, by all means contact your doctor.

When your thyroid stabilizes where it needs to be, you'll feel better in so many ways. It takes a while for the medication to absorb into your body--and changes to the medication take months to show up in your bloodwork, so be patient.

Good luck and I hope all goes well with you!
