  • Does anyone like the synthetic medication?

I have just heard so much good stuff about natural thyroid meds (armour) and have heard about so many people switching from the synthetic stuff, or how the synthetic stuff made their hair fall out worse, or didnt help at all...Is anyone happy with medication other than armour? I am going to the endocrinologist on monday to see if I am hypothyroid (I'm pretty sure I am) and I'm scared that I will be given a synthetic medicine that will just prolong my suffering until I get the (better?) natural stuff. Tell me your personal experiences.

I've taken synthroid and now levothyroxine (generic synthroid) since I was 12 years old. I get my levels checked (blood work) every six months. I've never experienced many problems, and I call my doctor if I feel symptomatic no matter how long it's been between tests. My current dose is 100 mcg and I've been at this level for about 15 years. I have no problems with my hair.

I hope everything goes well with your visit to the endocronologist. Discuss the differences in medications with your doctor at that visit.

Some people can take Armour and some can't. Most can take the synthetic form just fine. I've been on Synthroid for years and it works for me. Just be sure you are getting the proper dosage. Your TSH should be around 1.0 and never over 3.0
