  • Should I be seeing an endocrinologist??

I was born without a thyroid. I have always gone to a family doctor to get my hormone levels checked and put on whatever thyroid meds the doctor told me to take. Since I have been on here, I feel that maybe I should be seeing an endocrinologist, does anyone think that is a good idea, or would I just be wasting my time?

Re: Should I be seeing an endocrinologist??

Hi didnt want to read and run ive not heard of this before it must be quite uncommon but talk to your DR in the first instance ask him/her to go through all the figures from most recent bloods or get some done (if not had them in say the last 6-8wks) and obviously if are suffering with symptoms of hypo/hyper then levels could be not at optimal range but >' dont ask, dont get', so go along and ask for more info hopefully that will help more.
    good luck to you

I would call the doctors office asap and request COPIES of your lab reports (going back as far as possible).
By law now they must give you copies of medical records that you ask for.

See what your TSH is and what is was in the past.
Optimal TSH is a low number, around 1.0 (even though the lab reprts will call as high as 3.5 or higher 'normal', thats way too high).

      See what yours is.

Also, see if they are testing your FREE T4 & FREE T3. And what your levels are.
Optimal for those is the middle to UPPER part of the 'normal range', NOT the lower part.

Post your numbers (and the reference ranges your labs use) if you want and we will help you.
