  • I give up!

If anyone is out there I just have to get this off my chest. I give up!
I have been dieting for 6 years, I lose a pound then I gain a pound. I lose 6 gain back 5. I have done everything I possibly could, I know that in my heart but I can't do this any longer. Every where I go everything I do is diet dite diet. Six years worth. I just lost 6 lbs in one month for me that was great, I felt on top thought the thyroid hormones were kicking in thne one day I woke 2 pounds heavier, water I said, not! I pumped it up, yesterday I worked in the garden doing heavy duty digging and planting, sweating all day, I should have lost at least a pound of water, nothing, I actually gained. This is too much for me.

I want to wish all of you that are really getting it, that you have much success. Keep on keepin on.

    Re: I give up!

Your post makes me very sad. I do so relate to the difficulty in losing weight when your thyroid is not functioning properly. I can't help wondering if that might be your problem.

If you are hypothyroid, where are you in your treatment? When were your last labs? What were the results, including the ranges? I do know I wasn't able to have success with weight loss until my TSH was under 1 and I was well enough to follow a low carb plan and also add exercise.

Did you see my posts here:

How often do you have your thyroid medication titrated and did you have a complete thyroid panel done before starting Atkins? Eating low carb without a proper adjustment of your meds can interfere not only with your weight loss, but also with your general health, especially if your calories are too low.

What are you eating? Are you avoiding goitrogens and keeping your calories a little high?

Exercising will not necessarily make you lose weight, although it will make you lose fat. If you weigh the day after you exercised at a level you weren't used to, then your weight might be higher as your muscles are recovering by retaining fluid. When I changed my strength training routine a few months ago, I gained ~5 lbs overnight... and it took me about a week or two to get rid of them.

Also, what are your stats and when did you begin Atkins?

        Oh nooooo.
So sorry you are having a bad day. I though you sounded so optimistic earlier on.
I would suggest perhaps having meds adjusted for your thyroid problem.
I am hypothyroid and I love what the meds have done for me. I hope you can find something that will work for you too.

          Re: I give up!

dont give up heres some tips

These vegetables inhibit the thyroid function
Brassica family: Cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens

so dont eat any of thoughs vegetables

thyroid problems make it hard to lose weight but doctors can help fix your thyriod problems tweak around with finding a good doctor and that gives different medications till you find one that you lose weight with

cardio like exercise does not always burn fat try lifting heavy weights and pushing your muscles to the max that will have better fat loss & muscle gain effects

eating low carbohydrate is the best way to go but not only that look at all these other diseases it prevents

Diabetes - The Cause, Prevention, Treatment and Control of Hypoglycemia and Types 1 & 2 Diabetes.

biblelife link has many other links to all the other dieseases eating low carb helps vs

YouTube - BODY BY SCIENCE 5 (The Science Of Fat Loss -- Part 1)

YouTube - BODY BY SCIENCE 5 (The Science Of Fat Loss -- Part 2)

A clear explanation of why low carb diets work. (article)

and these links more info for helping vs fat loss

also dont eat any sugar alcohals or aspartame they can cause stalls in alot of people or even weight gain

make sure to eat 20 net carbs max but maybe in your case 15

and remmber to eat only medium amounts of protein atleast for now

super high fat , medium protein , super low carb

for example a meal of 6 chicken eggs toss 3 of the egg whites to be on the extra 100% weight loss effect side

normally protein converted glucose causes no blood sugar spikes i think but people with messed up metabolisms or something maybe a problem could happen so untill your metabolism is healed from eating low carb i think you should stay at medium protein

and dont ever eat low protein you need medium protein

            Re: I give up!

I was having a bad day but it picked up considerably. I amusually very optimistic and i guess i just let mydelf feel sorry for me for a few hours.
I was only diagnosed 3 weeks ago, I am schedueld for another test in two weeks.
That isnot why I was so upset. I have been gaining weight for the last 6 years, it is very hard to maintain weight that long, I fortunately only gained about 25 lbs but I was upset about that since I was always thin all my life.
I am very tired in the morning because of my cortisol, I am useually up at 5 and walking the dog by then. It is not the meds I have not given them enough time to work, but right after i wrote this self deprecating notge I felt amazingly better.
In fact at 11:00 I got a phone call and was told that the church elected me to the board and they wanted me accept the position, I have only been there for a year and that is an honor. So you see it really wan't the meds but me. I am really feeling quite well now. I am not giving this thing a chance, I gtend to want everything done yeterday. But please know how much I appreciate your caring and concern.
I will check out all your sites that you posted.
So you see it is just that everything is new. I also have Tinnitus and it is also getting worse many types of pills including aspirin make it worse and that is what is happening. I will come out of this just fine.
Thank you so much all of you.

              Re: I give up!

Happycat, we seem to have come full circle, you were discouraged and I tried to cheer you up, I am discouraged and you are cheering me up. I think that is a draw.
Ok, it is not that I am not trying, I bought, The new Dr. Atkins book, the Stillman diet book (had that years ago just wanted a copy) Protien Power, Suzanne Somers, and i didn't even like her. There's more but i don't remember.
I don't eat broccoli or any of that stuff, no soy, no sugar no aspartame, no milk, flour rice pasta bread etc etc.
I am just being a baby today, I am sorry I bothered you all. You are all so nice thank you.
I am not going to give up.

                Re: I give up!

Thanks for the update, Rosemarie. I am so glad you're doing better. Your posts really tugged at my heart strings, probably because I can totally identify with the frustration over the weight gain. I still battle some anger over not being treated long ago, but mostly I am just so happy to feel so very much better now.

Erin that is why it is so nice to have a place for us to come and give our tale of woe. we all know what the other is going through.
This thing is very hard, I have been burdened with a few illnesses that quite frankly are taking the life out of me. But, I always pick myself up and get back into it.
                  Thanks again for the support.
