  • Thyroid meds and Hunger

    Hi
I have been doing a great job losing weight, so questioning whether my thyroid was working or not hadn't even crossed my mind. But...over the past 3 months I have lost a tremendous amount of hair. I thought it was probably due to losing so much weight since May and tried to ignore it. But my hairdresser refused to color me last month because my hair had thinned so much--she encouraged me to have it checked out first. I finally got into the dermatologist a few weeks ago and he tested my thyroid levels among other things. Less than a week later, I had been referred for additional testing. Apparently my levels indicated that I need to be on thyroid meds. I started them last week. I don't feel any different--besides a bit of nausea right after taking the pill--AND a HUGE increase in my appetite. I don't want to eat more often or more food, but that is what is happening on a daily basis now. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do?? I'm worried that all of my hard work will go down the drain as I gain my weight back to save my health--and my hair.

    Re: Thyroid meds and Hunger

No I cannot say that happened to me. I put on loads of weight because my thyroid was sluggish. When I started the meds I did not notice any changes in appetite but I can see that that is possible since it helps your metabolism
So you are sure that you are not eating things that stimulate your appetite like the bread and crepes you were talking about in that other thread. It is easy to go a little over board on rung 3 and 4. And you wil come across appetite stimulating carbs and if you increase carbs quickly your resistance may break down.

Well, I'm still on rung 2 (looking forward to crepes some day, but not in the near future), but I did introduce 2 new veggies recently. I tried avocado during the veggie challenge and then introduced pumpkin a few days ago. I hadn't thought about analyzing newly introduced foods since my ratios still look good, but that makes sense. I'll go back to normal induction foods that I know I can tolerate and see what happens. Thanks.
