  • Hypothyroidism

    Hi Everyone!

Thought I would come over here and join everyone. I have had Hypothroidism for over 10 years and found the only diet that truly helped was Atkins. This is my second time around and I'm taking it a whole lot more serious because my health is at stake. I'm only 29 and am not only having more issues with my Thyroid, but also with my Cholesterol. This past year I was NOT good about taking my medicine and have made the resolution to take it every day even if it's not at the correct time. I feel miserable when I miss two or three weeks at a time and I should know better because I'm doing more damage to my body than I realize.

"I wake up every day with the realization that this is it, that there's only one shot at this life and I can either enjoy the ride and live it to its fullest and to my highest potential or I can stay the way I am."

    Re: Hypothyroidism

Hey and welcome back! I also have hypothyroidism and have been off meds for a year. Unfortunately, I went to a doc who claimed I didn't need them...without a blood test...and I was too uneducated to realize that was a problem. It's all well and good now, thankfully, and back on track. They also tested me for hashimoto's..should hear back on that within a day or two.

Isn't Atkins exciting?!?!? It's like rediscovering yourself. Each day is something new.

        Re: Hypothyroidism

Thyroxine is a hormone (body chemical) made by the thyroid gland in the neck. It is carried round the body in the bloodstream. It helps to keep the body's functions (the metabolism) working at the correct pace. Many cells and tissues in the body need thyroxine to keep them going correctly.

Hypothyroidism means that the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroxine. It is often called an underactive thyroid. This causes many of the body's functions to slow down.
