  • Soy and thyroid

This is a great video about soy - and it touches on thyroid function: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0UVj...rom=PL&index=8

It makes me wonder if going vegetarian and eating more soy started my thyroid problem in the first place.

Amen!! Though not a cancer survivor, I avoid soy also unless fermented. I don't want it messing with my hormones!

So if avoiding soy does that mean no tofu? Anything else with a lot of soy that might not be so obvious?

              Re: Soy and thyroid

The relationship between soy and the thyroid is complicated. But there's no question -- soy can impact your thyroid, and some experts believe that overconsumption of soy can damage the thyroid and trigger autoimmune disease. Soy and many soy products contains isoflavones, which are phytoestrogens -- plant-based estrogens. It is soy's weak estrogenic properties that are often touted as a health benefit of soy. Soy is a highly profitable for some of the the world's largest multinational agribusinesses. These include Cargill, Archer Daniels Midland and Solae (a joint venture of DuPont and Bunge). (These companies are collectively sometimes referred to as "Big Soy.") In the past decade, the market for soy has exploded, and soy is now being incorporated into a variety of processed foods, and included in various nutritional supplements.
