  • Not losing- can it be my Thyroid?

    HI,

I have been on Synthroid for approx 1.5 yrs now, and haven't really felt any different than I did before. THat is something I have to take up with my dr.

I also recently had a baby and am ready to get my body back, so I joined Atkins because I have heard wonderful things about the diet.

It has been ten days and I have fluctuated between 1 and 2 pounds loss... now from what I have heard, this is not normal.

Does anybody have any tips on how to handle this? Are there some tricks I should know about to help jump start my weight loss?

THanks a lot for the support.

when was the last time you had a full Thyroid panel check? free T4 freeT3 T3 total so you know if you are properly medicated. Don't go by TSH as that is a pituatary hormone not a thyroid hormone.

I needed my dose adjusted several times since 2002 and any time I'm out of normal for my I gain weight or stop losing.

Thank-you so much. I just checked my blood requisition from my Dr. and it looks like he is only testing me for TSH, I will go see him this week and have him do thorough blood work. Hopefully that is the key and I can start losing!

      Cheers!

Have you posted your menu for review? Lots of times, we just need some tips and tweaks to make sure we're eating right. It's even more important when you have thyroid issues. Eating sufficient fat is important too, I aim for 60-65%, have cut out aspartame and have limited any other artificial sweetener, drinking lots of water, exercising, lots of veggies, etc. It took me quite a while to figure out how to do this right and I have to be very strict and careful or else I don't lose weight.

Are you measuring? Lots of time you may be losing inches.

But do have your thyroid levels checked too and make sure you're in the correct range.
        Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
        STAC Restart: 1/05/09
        306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

        Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
        Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

        Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
        Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
        Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!
