  • Multivitamins with iron

    Hi everyone,

I know that Atkins dieters should get multivitamin supplements that do not contain iron because of the high red meat contents of their diet, and therefore a high dietary iron intake--and I know that iron can be poisonous in certain amounts.

My problem is that I have a large bottle of store-brand one-a-day multivitamins that have an excellent variety of vitamins and minerals, but regrettably a daily dose of iron.

Normally, I would go right out and look for something more suitable but money is really tight right now and these vitamins (though purchased about 8 months ago during a non-Atkins period) cost me $12 or so, not a lot for normal people, but for a tight budget, every $10 hurts.

So I wanted to get some feedback on the negative aspects of a multi with iron. What could happen? I need to weigh my options... also, any recommendations for a good multi without iron would be fantastic. Thanks guys!
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

    Re: Multivitamins with iron

Finish your bottle, and be careful of eating high iron proteins while you do it. Iron is one mineral that you just don't want to get to much of, its not good for you and you'd be healthier a little low on iron.
But finish your bottle, use fitday to check on how much iron your getting and then when you get the next bottle, be sure its iron free.
