  • Help did I miss anything?

    Ok these are the vitamins am looking at taking.

    GNC's Chromium Picolintate 200mg, GNC's Fish body oils 1000 or should I be taking GNC's Fish body oils with GLA? Centrum sliver, Preventive Nutrition CoQ-10 100mg. Or I can get these vitamins from Walgreen's cheaper but different brands. Am I taking the right amounts?

    Did I miss anything I need? As for centrum sliver which one do I take there are so many different ones. Do I take these all the time or are there some I just need to take while I am doing the induction?

    I have alos been wondering about protine shakes. Is anyone taking them? If so what is the brand and how many per day. Is this something I should take after I do the induction

    I can use all the advice I can get bf I start doing atkins.

    i'm gonna let biogeek address the vitamin questions. i know you should NOT be taking anything that has iron. you'll be getting enough of that as you start.

    protein shakes: i know some drink them but i could never understand why. i didn't and i viewed it, for me, as a waste of money.

    i will say, imho, go cheaper. i've been buying vitamins at dollar general. much cheaper than the ones you get at the big chain super stores.

        I have read that you should take it b/c there is no iron in it. I hope that is correct. if I am wrong someone plese let me know

          Well, if you want GNC, they have a women's ultra mega without iron that I used to take (well, I used to take the version with Iron), but I don't understand why you're not taking iron??

          I take their Flax Seed Oil vs. Fish Oil (3000mg/day) but I believe I used to take the same amount of fish oil... it depends what you're trying to get from it.

          The CoQ10, I'm not sure they're still saying has any weight loss benefit, so if you're taking it for (I believe) heart health, then you're good, but I'm not sure about the other part. I always thought it was too expensive to take for long periods of time while on Atkins since I lose a lot with just the WoL, and I don't think it would be much possible to lose faster...

            I am not taking anything as of yet. I still have to finish the book. I just wanted to know if I was missing any vitamins. If anyone can help me on what I need or don't need. In the end the cheaper I can get the vitamins the better so they don't have to be GNC. As for the Iron I guess I miss read that you're not supose to take it.

              Hi Bombie!

              Welcome to ADBB!!

              With the supplements you are currently taking, you may take them all at the same time or split them up. It depends on what works best for you. The important part is being consistent.

              As far as taking the right amounts, it depends on if you just want an insurance of good health or if you're trying to prevent or heal something that you already have. What you're taking is fine for staying healthy. Your Centrum Silver does NOT have iron...here's the label for it. http://www.centrum.com/products/silv...els/silver.asp

              You definately do NOT want iron from a supplement. I belive Jimmie meant "you shouldN'T take anything with iron in it." Here's a copy & paste of something I wrote in a different thread regarding multivitamins with iron:

              The good kind of iron = heme iron. You get this version from eating red meat, pork, chicken, fish, other seafood. It is readily absorbed and used by the body, and any excess of heme iron does not accumulate & gets flushed away.

              The bad kind of iron = non-heme iron. This is mostly in supplements and iron-fortified foods. The body will absorb a lot of this kind of iron, but not necessarily use it. Heme-iron is the preference for our bodies, but with the build up of non-heme iron, the levels continue to increase and eventually will cause disease.

              Please let me know if you need further info regarding supplements. I'm not too knowledgable about protein shakes...I prefer real meat.

              Either fish oil supplement will be just fine. GLA is just a type of Omega 6. There's a thread that I started regarding Omega 3-6-9 that you might find interesting & may help you decide which types to take.

                thank you bio, for reading what i typed and giving the right interruptation.

                sorry if i mislead anybody. there is alot i don't know but that one thing i knew. NO IRON supplement is needed.

                      Well, certainly your choice, but not one that is recommended by Atkins.

                        ooohhh.. maybe I don't anymore with these vitamins... I used to... but I didn't eat meat often and bruised like a banana, it helped.
