  • Flax Question! Someone help please

    Hey guys,
i keep reading about everyone taking flax in "tablespoon" "teaspoons" etc... But i bought flaxseed oil today and its in "pill" format, (well it looks like the liquid advils) The bottle sais i should take 4 to 8 a day...but how many should i take on atkins?
Im still in Induction (week 4)
the bottle sais: Flax (Linum usitatissimum L) 1000mg (certified 100% organic)
Contains no artificial preservatives, coulours or flavous; wheat or yeast

Whats the difference between liquid & capsules?
Ive had no constipation problems, so will taking this benefit me in any way?

    Thanks

I would think if you have no constipation there would be no reason to take them. I am sure someone with real knowledge will be along soon. I eat is often but as a ground meal that I bake with, sort of serves 2 purposes.

      Hi Honey!

Flaxseed is a great source of Omega 3 oils! It's so good for you!!! Here's a link about how good it is for you, whether you have constipation issues or not. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=40528

So, as you have found out, there are many ways that you can incorporate flaxseed into your life.

The difference between liquid and capsules is that with capsules, it's easier to take for some b/c they don't taste the liquid. Some people do not enjoy the taste of pure flaxseed oil, so they take it in capsule form. Also, depending on the manufacturer, they may concentrate the oil that they put into capsules, so you get more bang per capsule.

With liquid form, you may drizzle it on salads or other foods. Don't cook with it, as the heat will destroy most of the goodness that's found in the oil.

Flaxseeds are also easy to eat. Some people sprinkle them in salads, soups, and other meals and eat as is. You may also grind them up in a coffee grinder to make your own flaxmeal. Mix with a bit of water, a packet of splenda, and some optional flavorings, then zap in a microwave for 1 minute or so depending on your microwave, and you have a flax wafer that's pretty tastey and good for you.

Like I said before, flaxseeds and the oil are great sources of omega 3, something that more people should incorporate into their daily lives. Enjoy!

Ah! verry interesting! Thank you biogeek

But doesnt 4 to 8 capsules sound like much? I mean , maybe its just all in my head! But i fell like im taking so much stuff lol (well if i include these 8 and my multivitamins)

Does flaxseed help in weight loss, or its just a "healthy" thing?

Re: Flax Question! Someone help please

I take flax seed oil in capsule form (1000mg) twice a day. My bottle says 1-3 pills daily though, so I think 4-8 is pushing it a bit. I started taking it to help with skin elasticity though and I honestly think it's really helping (I know *something* definitely is).

Re: Flax Question! Someone help please

Glad you like the article, Honey.

At 1000 mg per capsule, taking up to 8 of those a day is excessive, like Lyssie said. 3 1000-mg capsules a day is great for overall good health and to improve your skin, blood flow, etc. Unless you're having cardiovascular issues and the like, there's no need for a healthy adult to take more than 3000 mg/day.

If you're taking multiple capsules, you want to spread them out throughout the day, e.g. morning, lunch, and dinner. If taking four, then morning, lunch, dinner, bedtime.

Flaxoil won't make you lose weight faster than not taking it. It's for overall good health, not a weightloss pill.
