Currently (and hopefully only temporarily), I'm fighting with getting my calcium levels in my blood up there. This is due to the parathyroid glands being a bit stressed from the removal of my thyroid. A couple days after the second surgery, I was in ER getting calcium pumped in through an IV, because the level in my blood was 6.3 (IIRC).
Last week's bloodwork had shown a level of 7.6, where the doctor would have liked it to be at least 8.3. It should normally be around 10.something or another. I've been taking in 2 grams of Oscal and another 500 mg through Woman's One-a-day multivitamin, as directed by my ENT doctor. And then whatever else in some foods. So he was surprised to see how low it still was. Magnesium is good which indicated the parathyroids are there and working to a degree, just need time to heal and grow large enough to accomodate my body's needs.
However, I'm starting to work out again, namely riding bike. I can't help but wonder if I'm using up the calcium faster than I'm building it up and should be taking in more. I've been researching it and can't find any information on this, only info about calcium in relation to bone health.
Can anyone tell me how fast we use up calcium in our blood and suggest what I might want to do here? I don't want to give up working out now that I feel good enough to do so again, but don't want to risk another medical emergency.
Appreciate any insight anyone can give me here.
