  • What vitamins/supplements do you take?

    Hello!

    I only take centrum silver.

But I have heard stories of people who take potassium, calcium, omega 3 - 6 - 9, b6 - 12, fish oils, biotin, the one for cravings, magnesium & everything else under the sun.

I'm just wondering what the wonderful people here at ADBB ( ) take and what it is actually for?

I have never actually spent the time to look up what each of them are used for, which ones could actually be helping me with my weightloss & health?

    Any comments would be helpful!!!

I think some people go way overboard on vitamins that's not really necessary. I take a multi vitamin with no iron and if I have a craving I do take L-Glutimine (probally about twice a week). That's all I believe is really necessary.

          Hey Speedy!

For most folks starting out, just taking a good multi-vitamin (without iron), a B-complex, and flax oil/fish oil supplements are all you really need for good health. I think the multi-vitamin explains itself; the benefits of the B-vitamins are numerous & are explained in three different threads in this forum; the benefits of flax oil/fish oil are also many & are explained in a separate thread. Links at the end of this message.

As a general rule, one shouldn't take a whole lot of new supplements all at once. That way if there are GI issues, nausea, metallic taste, you can easily narrow down the culprit. Also, you can keep a journal to log how you feel & see any changes, postive or negative, that each new supplement has on you. You can then decide whether to keep a supplement or not. Why take something if you can't tell if it's doing anything, eh?

L-glutamine also works for a lot of people in cutting down sugar cravings & L-carnitine works in muscle recovery.

If you still have questions after reading the links, please don't hesitate to ask questions. I'll be out of town this weekend, but should be on-line on Monday.

Re: What vitamins/supplements do you take?

I got advice from this forum and others as to what to take. I finally decided on:

            From Vitacost, I got:

            NSI Complete EFA

NSI NutriSlim Low Carb Dieter's Basic Multi-Vitamin (This one had substantial doses of what everyone was talking about, including chromium and B complex.)

            From Puritan's Pride:

            Calcium/Magnesium/Potassium tablets

            CO Q-10 100 mg

            L-CARNITINE 500 mg

            DHEA 25 mg

Now I'm thinking of adding some kind of fiber/flax supplement to insure regularity. I've never been constipated in my life, but on Atkins I often go a day or two without having a 'constitutional'. Maybe I should have just stayed away from that cheese...

Re: What vitamins/supplements do you take?

I read Dr. Atkins Vita Nutrient Solution and that got me started taking quite a few supplements. I'd rather take vitamins to avoid being sick than have to take drugs to cure me.

              I take:

              3 fish oil (omega 3)
              CoQ10 (100 mg)
              odorless garlic
              flush-free niacin (2 @ 500 mg)
              vit B
              vit C
              vit E
              calcium
              multivitamin
              biotin
              green tea extract
              milk thistle
              cinnamon
