I've been on atkins for a couple of months and have been losing steadily. My cravings never did go away but I've noticed in the last couple of weeks they've been getting worse. So the health food store I go in sometimes recommended Spirulina. I came home and read up on it and it sounded really good. It's supposed to give you energy and curb the appitite. Well, I noticed a difference with the very first pill. I no longer got hungry an hour after I ate a protien packed meal. And my energy level almost doubled. The problem is that in the 5 days I've been taking it the scale has stopped moving. And this moning it was actusally up 2 pounds! My menu hasn't changed any. Maybe I'm eating a little less but I'm still eating something every few hours. Even though my energy level is stronger I really haven't been excersizing more yet. Been spending that energy on cleaning the house
Anyone have any ideas?

Spirulina is one of those "super foods," and I don't have issues with people taking it for whatever reason. It contains a lot of good vitamins, minerals, and essential oils and is also a good source of protein. It has has some carbohyrates as well, but protein/carb/fat levels vary with manufacturers. I have read that for those that have problems with gaining weight (i.e. folks that are too thin), spirulina helps them do so more readily. This doesn't mean that it will cause everyone to gain weight.
Have you ever tried L-glutamine to try to curb your cravings? It doesn't contain carbs at all and would be interesting to see how it compares to spirulina.
If you are still gaining and/or not losing when taking L-glutamine, then a careful look at your food log is in order to make sure you're not consuming too many carbs, hidden or otherwise. Oh, and I think cleaning the house is exercise!!! I know I sweat doing it!

Well, if it helps people gain weight that's enough for me. I'm gonna stop taking it. I don't care how much energy it gives me. Yes, I do take L-Glutamine. It does help with the cravings but I liked the way Spirulina made me feel. Oh well, I knew it was to good to be true
