  • Anxiety...

Does anyone know of an effective herbal or natural remedy or treatment for anxiety or stress? I've been having some major anxiety issues over the past couple months and it's coming to a major head this week. I need to go get something now to help. I have a doctor's appointment next week and we'll see if there is some medication he can prescribe, but I need some instant relief.

    Higgies, Dr. A recommended GABA.

Be careful, though, not to get GABA with Inositol, it knocks me out flat. (Sleep) However, if you need to get to sleep and not be groggy, get the Inositol (Niacin).

Funny, this post from Sadie this morning too.

Dr. Atkins also talked in his VitaNutrient solution book about Tryptophan (which is what the links in this other post talk about).

I would NOT recommend mixing any of them though, because they'd probably put you directly to SLEEP instead of being alert and able to see clearly through the anxiety.

I, personally, haven't been able to find tryptophan...but can find the GABA and the Inositol(Niacin).

KAVA KAVA works for me. I know its controversial (google it), but for occasional use, I don't have any issues from it.

Also, NOTHING eases my stress filled life as much as a good run of 5 or 6 miles.

        HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER!

Yeah, running and working out does help me quite a bit, but I can't be constantly on a tread mill...

Everything I've read about Kava is bad (liver or kidney damage or something). Hmmm...

My sister swears by Bach's Rescue Remedy - which is herbal I believe. Not heavy duty, but might be of some help if you have it there.

I hope you feel better soon

Bach flower remedy got me out of a serious funk with anxiety and stress when i was younger. It was one of the most helpful things that my doctor gave me I think and they tried lots of things.

I take the B complex mixed with writing and/or a long brisk walk (*since I don't run or jog). This usually calms me down and helps me focus better.

I got some of the Bach's liquid drops. I took some and I do feel significantly better, but it might be a placebo effect....who knows. The guy at GNC could only tell me that most of the others would knock me out. We'll see how it goes.
