  • Restless legs and cramps

    Since starting back on Atkins, i am having a lot more legs cramps and restless leg syndrom that keeps me up at night. I have just started on my vitamins, Super B COmplex, L-carnitin, Omega 3.........any other suggestions.I am also working out on the Tony little gazzel machine (spelling).

    Restarted on 10/28/07

    I always have to take a potassium supplement when low carbing. They help me tremendously. I use to get killer leg cramps...alot...but now just one every once in awhile

      maybe add a little of stretching for those legs muschles would help. as per the book:

      "Another problem people occasionally experience is leg cramps at night due to a rapid excretion of calcium, magnesium or potassium. Be sure you are gettin genough of these minerals in your multivitamin or take a separate multimineral supplement . If you are still getting leg cramps , you many need to add more."
      also, on page 148 of your book, it suggests "supplement with potassium, magnesium and calcium in addition to your multivitamin"

        Jimmie is right on to quote Atkins...those are exactly what you need to help with those pesky leg cramps.

          I stopped taking my potassium, and Oh! Boy! had a cramp wake me up from sleep the other night!!!!
          Needless to say, I'm taking my potassium again. Also take Calcium and Magnesium...

            Yes in the past with doing Atkins i had terrible leg cramps but this time around i am taking a multi vitamin, B-complex, and a potassium pill. Once you get your vitamins in your system you should be feeling good.

              Thanks for all of your advice, i have order liquid calcium /magnesium and will get some potassium pills tomorrow. I did't think it could be low potassium but it makes perfect sense. I am rereading the book as well.

                I saw this thread and remember my mom. She stopped this diet because of her terrible leg cramps, and now I know why. As for me, I haven't got them yet, but I am having back pain and when I've been on this diet before I had the same pain. I am going to take those vitamins and hope it helps!

                  wants2bthin...I just found your post and was wondering if you are still have more RLS (restless leg syndrome)? I have had a very mild case, so I never got on a med but just the past few days I can't believe how bad it has gotten! I am not experiencing it when I am in bed thank goodness, but when I am sitting on the computer or reading it is getting worse. I am just in week 2 and I wonder if doing low carb can effect RLS like this?

                    however, maybe someone that has experienced RLS can have a conversation with you about it.
