  • SAM-e for Fibro and depression?

Has anyone tried Sam-e and had it work for fibromyalgia or depression...or heck...for anything?
    Thanks!

    Hi Hanna!

I used SAM-e for about 6 months, having suffered from treatment resistant depression, I took a break from my meds and gave it a shot.

My overall impression is that it's very expensive and you need to be at a high dose for any benefit. (at least 1,600 mg a day)

You also have to be careful because SAMe and the equally popular ST. Johns wort have MAOI related properties which can cause adverse reactions to certain foods, especially cured meats, hard cheeses and caffeine.

If you suspect you might be suffering from depression, my best suggestion would be to set an appointment with a Psychiatrist as soon as you possible can. General Practitioners do not have the knowledge or expertise to treat depression effectively, let alone prescribe for it.

    Hope this helps!
