    Hi Folks,

Any feedback, thoughts or suggestions on my supplement intake would be much appreciated.

    I take the following:
    • *One a Day CarbSmart Multi Vitamin - no iron

      * Super B & C Complex

*Green Tea Extract - no caffeine

      *CoQ10 - 100 mg a day

      * L-Carnitine - 4,000 mgs a day

*Green Magma - one dose a day

      * Flaxseed oil - Cold pressed 20,000 mgs

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

My only thought is that seems like a lot. What do you take it all for? Do you have particular health problems you are trying to remedy?

Peter, I think it looks good.

I also take the One A Day Carb Smart
      In addition I take:

      L-Carnitine 2,000 mg day
      COQ10 100 mg day
      Stress B Vitamin
Flax, Fish, Borage Oil 2 pills/day
      Chromium - 500 mg
      Ginseng
      Calcium (doctor insisted!)

I think that's it. I wonder why you take so much L-Carnitine? The DANDR recommends 2,000 mg at most. It really does help my workouts.

I think you're doing great! :hug

        Hi Debbie! :wave

Your supplement "menu" sounds excellent, I was thinking of adding Ginseng myself.

Dr. Atkins tweaked his doses with L-Carnitine as he did with so many supplements, in the latest 20002 version do DANDR if you look on page 261 he talks about how he starts his patients out at 1,500 mg a day and moves most of them to 5,000 mg to see a definitive results.

I take the CoQ10 as well but only 100 mgs - in the book his minimum reccomendation is 300...go figure!

I'm also pretty sold on Green Magma I have a post on it in the two week induction Forum. The energy I feel from it, especially after a workout, which for me is the mere one mile on the WATP program

Green Magma is a powdered concentration of young Barley grass that you mix with a little water, it's available at any health or vitamin store. If you want to learn a little more about it here's the link

We know that how you feel depends on what you eat, which is why Green Foods supplements are packed with healthy, organic, whole nutrition. It does have 2 low glycemic carbs per serving but they're veggie cards to they're ok.

Thanks for your response and congrats on hitting the 10 pounds off mark!

Thanks for the site, it's very informative! Green Magma sounds really good. I might have to try some! I do drink green tea at night occassionally to relax.

Thanks for noticing my stats :icondance I'm sure they will change (up) but that's what I was this morning so I thought I'd take it!

Peterlock I actually started this forum a couple of years back then last year dropped out of modding due to time constraints & now have taken on this forum again after being 'prodded' to come back & take care of my 'baby' lol

              Your list looks pretty good

I am a big proponent of 'super greens' such as B/Green or Blue-Green Algae as primary supplement have been taking Barley Green for close to 10 years now on a daily basis

I use the Barley Green from YH International as they manufacture formula developed by Japanese Dr Hagiwara which maximize's using active chlorophylls, here is link to their site

I think a basic list for everybody approaching or over forty should include a supergreen, a mulitivte & EFA's & beyond that you fine tune it for your own health/lifestyle issues

My advice on the Flaxseed is to change it one of many Multi EFA's available out there these days. Walmart/Sams has one, vitacost.com has one, these contain flax, borage & fish oils & often cost about the same price as any one of the oils. These are relatively new products but are excellent as you used to have to spend a bomb to get Omega 3-6-9 from three different sources

I am also a huge proponent of CoQ10, I take 400Mg a day (200Mg twice a day) I feel it is good for me as I am in my mid 50's & I exercise heavily several hours every day. You can read my sticky in this forum to see how important I think CoQ10 is.

You can buy CoQ10 - Carnitine Combo ( I get the CoQ10-Carnintine-Alpha Lipoic Acid Combo as I am former diabetic) very econmically from vitacost.com. They are an excellent source for vita-nutrients. Good service, good prices, etc

The last thing I think is I would suggest to you (& to all adult men) to add a daily dose of Saw Palmetto or Pygeum for prostate protection. Currently I take a combo of the two( NOW brand from USA but I buy in Singapore so don't know where to get) Prostate problems occur in later life for over half of adult men & in many cases turn to cancer. Taking a supplement daily now is a good prophylactic for not having those problem yourself as you get older

Thats about it. I am heavily into vita-nutrient therapy. As for the results I can honestly say when I started I was in bad shape my doctor was very worried about me. I had ever worsening diabetes & they wanted to put me on insulin, also my Blood Pressure & Cholesterol were off the map. Today my diabetes is for all practrical purposes gone (Normal BG readings) also my Blood Pressure is normal now, the Cholesterol is not bad; normal on 2 out of the 3 readings & the last troublesome LDL is coming in line slowly but surely

Since jumping full bore into Low Carb eating, upping my exercise component & getting into vita-nutrient therapy I can honesly say not only have I conquered the above mentioned conditions w/o 'drugs' but I also have literally not been sick (knock on wood) 1 day in the entire two years. Which I think is amaxing considering I am closing in on 60 years old

Ok I gotta stop typing now fingers getting tired
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

                Hi Shawnee,

Thank you for the excellent advice and information. Since taking the vitamins and supplements, along with following Atkins I feel better than I have in years. Now more gastric reflux, a normal sleep cycle and the depression Ive delt with for 40 years has really lifted (I have since stopped taking anti depressant meds and feel better than when I was on them) )

I'm not surprised, I experienced this years ago when I went on the Atkins WOL, but unfortunately drifted away back into old habits, put the weight back on and watched my health both physically and emotionally dwindle.

These days I'm back on Atkins with a ferver, excersize every day and have become fascinated by Nutri-supplements and their healing and disease prevention properties.

Which BTW, I'm so glad to here you've conquered your diabetes. I'll definitely make the switch to one of the EFA oils out there, I didn't even know they existed! So many thanks on the tip. As for the greens, boy am I sold maybe it's in my head or maybe there's real truth here but I feel better drinking my greens - almost immediately afterwards.

I called the Green Foods company that makes the brand - Green Magma and spoke with the Founder, nice guy and an advocate of Atkins www.greenfoods.com I'm not locked into the brand and will definitely take a look at the site you suggested. It seems they all have about the same 4 grams of carb per serving but they're low glycemic so not an issue as long as I count them. Green Magma has brown rice in it, but it must be a very trace level because the carb count is the same as most other brands Ive been reading about.

Shawnee, thanks so much for all this information and inspiration as well, as for being on the shy side of 60?
My grandfather who passed away this past summer lived to 104, until his last day he was walking each morning and evening, reading the New York Times every morning and a proponent of vitamins and supplements his entire life, long before there were books and resources for information and guidance, so at 104 he would have considered you "one smart Kid"
