  • Confused as all get out.

    Alright then.

I am starting the Atkins diet for the second time......well, actually I am restarting for the second time, the first "2nd try" didn't make it a week before drastic life emergencies required me to put it off.
Anywho, restarting again and looking for supplements. As mentioned once before I took the Basic #3 and Dieters Advantage the last time I was on Atkins, and had great results. I really feel the Dieters Advantage kicked up my energy levels and boosted the weight loss. With thosed unavailable I am looks for other options. This is where the confusion comes in.
I am taking a multi, and looking to take some other stuff....but not sure with all the options what is right. I've done some reading here, and basically wound up with too much info.
Is there a good supplement that is similar to Dieters Advantage?
    L-Caratine(sic)?
Oils? Wow. Borage, Primrose? Flax, Fish>\?
    GLA, CLA?
CoEn10? Seems to be the simplest of them all.

I am thinking I want to take a multi, Fish Oil capsule, EPO capsule, and CoEn10......but where do the GLA CLA L-Whatevers come in?

I have no problem taking supplements throughout the day....took the Basic #3 three times a day....the Dieters advantage twice.

    Biogeek...........HELP!

    Thanks,
    Alex.

Re: Confused as all get out.

Biogeek is not around for a while, so let's see if I can help...

First check what are the RDAs in the multivitamin you are taking and add that to what you get from your foods. Then see if you are deficient in anything. The absorption of vitamins is not 100% and varies from person to person, but if you don't want to see your doctor for a blood test (although I'd recommend doing that as he/she can tell you what additional supplements you should take---for example, you might need to take iron even though many foods on Atkins are rich in iron) this will give you a good idea what are some of the things you're missing.

L-Carnitine and CoQ10 were recommended by Dr. Atkins only if you feel you have a high resistance to weight loss. If I were you I'd do my 2-week Induction, then determine my metabolic resistance and decide whether I need these supplements. However I don't think it hurts taking any of them.

Dr. A. recommended fish oil, borage oil and flax oil. Borage oil is a better source of GLA then primrose oil (1 capsule of borage oil is equivalent to 4-5 capsules of primrose oil). You can take liquid CLA if you want. I don't take any essential oils.

You say "L-Whatevers". The other "L-"s mentioned in DANDR are L-glutamine, L-phenylalanine and N-acetyl-L-tyrosine. L-glutamine is recommended for sugar cravings (if you have any). The other two are for hunger that is not suppressed by ketosis. I never took any of these, so I don't know how efficient they are for me. I heard people saying they are great and people for whom they didn't make any difference.
