I am surprised that so few people in this forum are taking these supplements and that the Moderator doesn't recommend them. I don't have my DANDR with me at the moment, but specifically recall reading that these are recommended. My physician also recommended I take them as an aid to weight loss.

How do you know so few people are taking them?Originally posted by ThomasEarl View PostI am surprised that so few people in this forum are taking these supplements and that the Moderator doesn't recommend them. And one of our mods doesn't recommend supplements?
Well, I'm going to bust your stats: I take both!
1000mg of L-Carnitine and 400 mcg of chromium picolinate are in my Atkins Basic 3 multi.
p.s. From one of my comments in the recent Read The Book Challenge: "L-carnitine is involved in fat transport which works in collaboration with chromium and CoQ10 to mobilize fat (among other things)."

Re: L-Carnitine and Chromiun Picolinate
I added those for awhile and noticed no difference in weight loss, so I stopped spending extra $$ for them, although there is some Chromium Picolinate in my multivitamins. L-Carnitine is too expensive for me unless I can see the benefit.
OTOH, Sherri, one of the moderators, does take L-Carnitine. At least I believe I read a post of hers saying that.
Off topic: mizski, where do you find Atkins vitamins? I thought they weren't in production anymore.

Mizski,
I made my comments based on an admittedly un-exhaustive review of posts on the Vita Nutrients Solution/Supplements Forum, focusing on those where posters list the supplements they are taking.Re-Started Atkins 09/01/09

Re: L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate
They're not. I use Vitacost's version and usually take 2 caps/day instead of 3. I get my L-Carnitine and other supplements there after I scope out the local stores for sales.Originally posted by ErinB View PostOff topic: mizski, where do you find Atkins vitamins? I was being a bit goofy in my reply.Originally posted by ThomasEarl View PostMizski,

I also have noticed that many do not put much importance on supplements even though Dr. Atkins stresses that controlled carb intake, exercise AND proper supplements are key in doing Atkins successfully.
On a personal note, I was just taking my Centrum Silver, EFAs and a few other supplements when I started Atkins. I felt kind of punky even after Induction so I went back and re-read the section on supplements. Figured, what the heck...maybe Dr. Atkins knows what he's talking about
and I'll give his recommendations a try. He was right. The difference in how I felt was HUGE.
I do believe more people should pay attention to Chapter 23 and take the supplements he recommends.
p.s. Chapter 23 is titled Nutritional Supplements: Don't Even Think of Getting Along Without Them! Yet many do.

I take both too, but I have noticed, like the OP, that in those threads about "What vitamins are you taking", they do not seem to get mentioned much.Grant

Re: L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate
I take chromium, L-carnitine, CoQ10 and CLA daily. At night I take potassium, magnesium and calcium to help with cramping. In addition to these vitamins, I also take milk thisle, N-Acetyl Cysteine, Lecithin to help reduce my blood pressure and help with kidney and liver support. I also take a one-a-day vitamin, too, and just recently started taking my Omega-3 fish oil pills. I read on a bodybuilding website that this helps the joints. I might start doing chondroitin glucosamine again, but I need to find the shell-fish free stuff. I was taking 1000 mg of Niacin, until I found out that I was allergic to the stuff. Whew, that wasn't fun at all. Felt like my skin was on fire.
I don't know if this helps the weight loss or not, however, I do know that I haven't had a cold since. All the while, my wife and some of the cats have came down with a cold and they have been sneezing and coughing. {{{knock on wood}}}Last edited by Bishop; December 3, 2009, 06:01 PM.

Re: L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate
I was planning on buying these four and starting them in the next couple of days. What type of store is best to buy them from? I know Chromium Picolinate is available from big box stores. I think CoQ10 is too. Will those be as high quality as from a GNC-type store? I have never noticed the other two anywhere besides supplement stores.Originally posted by Bishop View PostI take chromium, L-carnitine, CoQ10 and CLA daily.

Re: L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate
Just because it's GNC doesn't necessarily equal quality. IMO, GNC is too overpriced. I got all my vitamins online from Vitacost.com -- however, I later found my local Walmart carries some of my other vitamins for the same price or less than Vitacost.Originally posted by Joey_S View PostI was planning on buying these four and starting them in the next couple of days. Re: L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate
actually Dr Atkins qualifies his supplementation by saying he assumes everybody was eating a bad diet void of them since so many of his patients were.
And if one checks natural sources for L-carnitine one will see that eating atkins gives one a heck of a lot of it naturally so if one supplements one is just making expensive pee.
we eat it in red meat yep red meat pork and chicken, and in the induction veggies artichokes, asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, garlic, mustard greens, okra, and parsley
In OWl we add more of those veggies and nuts and seeds as well.
ALSO when DANDR was written chromium picolinate was not included in OTC multivits and minerals as it is now.by the book atkinseer

Wow. I'm so glad I came across this. I remember taking these as well as CLA I think it was, years ago. I had not remembered until I saw this.
